Looking for some advice on insurance. I got my V8 Vantage mid-year in terms of my insurance so simply changed it over from the 911. Now looking around for cover and can't seem to find what seems like a good deal; all significantly higher than the Porsche was.

The car is for weekends only, limited mileage. Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you look on page 2 you will see a thread I started called 'Modifications and NCD'.

Some really good recs on insurance - Locktons, Hiscox / A-Plan, Chris Knott - should be your first port of call.

I was in identical car and situation to you. I had been with porsche insurance. I am now with lockton. Ok more expensive, but I think you get what you pay for in life.

Agreed - don't just assume the Aston will be more expensive.

A lot will depend on your profile and indeed your car's profile - A £45K used Vantage will not insure for the same amount as a new DB9.

If not using a specialist, READ THROUGH THE POLICY CAREFULLY and if you use internet supermarkets, it is possible that they will be quoting for non-AM genuine parts in the event of an accident.

Invalidating a warranty is one thing, but if you come to sell your car and part of the engine has a 'vauxhall' sticker on it you may not get as much as you think

How did you manage that! I am 32, full NCB, no points, car is garaged etc. and Aviva wanted £3.5k!

That does seem very cheap - just checking its not one of these situations where you have actually insured it under your dads name or such like...

guessing a case of having a low risk postcode, tracker, garaged and have a wife in her 30's........ All insured in my name, wife is just a named driver as she uses it every other weekend

Should the worst happen I have specified at the repairs are completed via my local dealer being Aston martinworks.

Let's say I was very happy with the quote. I was expecting at least £1,000

With Aviva as well.

36 full NCB, Garaged, wife on policy, 6000 mile limit was £379. I went via Quidco and got £75 cashback so £304. That was last April so renewal soon, should will be interesting to see what figure they come up with. I expect it will be much higher.

I have heard that just adding someone on your insurance , lowers it by a fair bit.
Like the wife etc. Doesnt mean you have to let them dive it :-)

Absolutely, mine goes down to under half by having my parents on it - awesome!

Although saying that I have just lent my car to my father for a few days as he's on a factory tour today! First time either has driven it though...

I always put my wife on the insurance of my manual V8 and it always lowers the premium
She only has an auto licence so no fear of her getting the keys !! smile

It used to be but the european court ruled last week that it is illegal to discrimate in such a way (based upon gender) and from the end of 2012 adding your ladyfriend onto your policy therefore will not save you money. If the insurance companies comply with the intent to the ruling however males policies will be lower anyway.

But adding the more people who are more experienced than yourself to 'share' the driving will always bring down the policy a little bit.

I add my name to my Wife's Shielas Wheels Policy and my middle daughter's Shielas Wheels Policy and it does indeed reduce their premium.

I add my name to my eldest daughter's Shielas Wheels Policy and it increases her premium.

Mmmmmmmmmmm. Is it because she is a blonde?

The terrifying thing is that the next natural step is to consider age discrimination, and then we'll all pay the same insurance as a 17 year old.

Apparently we can't advertise jobs now for people with x years experience, as younger people will be less likely to have that experience. Most of us used several years experience as a reason for cheaper car insurance ...
