Yesterday was listening to music at around 2/3 volume and it would appear that I have blown the front right speaker. Any sort of bass now sounds terrible and flaps about, therefore I need to change the speaker. Few questions:

1.) What is the size of the speakers in the doors and are they 2-way?
2.) Does anybody know the size of all the speakers in the premium audio system and are they all 2-way?
3.) How easy is it to take the door card off and work on the speakers?

My thoughts are to change the existing to a set of mid-priced Focal's do you think that this would be an upgrade or downgrade to the existing speakers.

Comments / Suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Is it the speaker in the upper part of the drivers side door? If so are you sure it's the speaker and not the grill?
See if it sounds the same when the door is open.
I had what I though was a blown speaker but it was in fact the grill rattling when the door was shut.

1.) and 2.)They are a 4" 2 way speaker in the front door. They are the same part number for both the standard audio and the premium sound.
3.) Unbolt grab handle, remove screw from inside vent aperture, remove screws alon bottom of door and whilst easing out at bottom lift up door panel, disconnecting door handle and door switch connectors. (I think that covers it, apologies if I've missed anything.

The Focal 4" is a very good speaker, so much so I used them in the last upgrade I did.

Thought on the Premium the front speakers are upgraded to 100W. Let me know if that not true and I'll update the FAQ's.

In the original spec for the car written, as it being launched, they did say that it was going to be 100W speaker. however according to the parts list I had privy to, the part numbers are the same. However, they do not give a rating on the parts list or the circuit diagrams. The upgrade consists of a change to the Sub, up from 100W to 200W (both dual coil), change of amplifier and then addition of a sub amp and a centre speaker. There are then 2 rear speakers added.

6G33-18808-MA (R/H speaker)
6G33-18808-JB (L/H speaker)

the only change to this is on 2009MY when the part number for both is
9G43-18808-JB

The Upgrade I completed recently completed using a Hertz amp and Focal components did sound somewhat better then the premium sound system IMHO. Would like to try another one using the Audison Bit One (digital sound processor) before feeding it to a new 5 channel amp (Hertz EP5 or such) and focal component speakers.

Or just borrow a V12V again and drive with the window open......

its the amps that are upgrade in the premium audio, not the speakers

adds rear speakers and centre to give "surround sound"

and more DSP gizmo, and more pokey amps

make sense to use same parts otherwise for build simplicity etc

they are high end Alpine, there are lots of more expensive speakers out there, though law of diminishing returns applies at this level...no doubt you could spend £500 on a pair of 4" speakers and not really notice the difference

so Focal, more than good enough if you cant just get an OE one cheap somewhere
