Why don't Aston drivers wave at each other?
Discussion
I appreciate that there has been a previous thread on waving but I'm trying to understand why the typical Aston driver doesn't wave back.
Is it that most fit the demographic of middle aged, stuffy, wealthy and 'above it'?
This morning I was driving back from the garage with my newspapers and the ingredients for my crisp sandwich and passed a gorgeous dark blue AMV8 Roadster (roof up I may add). I waved, but not even a nod or a lift of finger in return. I have only had my Aston since November last year and since then I have passed 5 Astons, waved at all of them and not had 1 response.
When I had my MGB - everyone waved, same for my Morris Minor and same for both my TVR's. No one wavedd when I had either of my Porsches but then everyone drives a Porsche these days, but Astons are still relatively rare.
Anyone care to enlighten me?
Yours despondently....

Ive given up waving at Astons ...maybe a couple of times when I first got it 4 years ago, but no response so never bothered since
... many "enthusiasts" versus "other" type buyers do they attract ?
when Ive had cars like an Elise, 90% of the people who will put up with them daily ARE enthusiasts and would wave acknowledgement..similiar with Caterham, Morgan i.e. low volume cars with niche appeal
drive a Porsche/Merc/Audi/BMW though, and only a tiny % are car geeks...high volume with wide appeal
I think Aston is in between now (bigger volume, wide appeal) ... sure theres a small proportion of us who own them as "enthusiasts" , but not the majority ...after all we can barely rustle up a couple of hundred people for an active forum, yet there are quite a few thousand in the UK alone
wheres everyone else? ..I guess they just happen to own a nice car, they dont feel the need to chat about online, attend events etc...and likely next year they change it for another nice car.....

That sounds about right. I'm nearly at the point of giving up on the basis if you can't beat them, then join them. Then it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy... many "enthusiasts" versus "other" type buyers do they attract ?

Shame as an Aston deserves to be cared for by an enthusiast - someone that will stroke her and conform to her every desire. Be hypnotised by the sound of voice and treat her with the respect she deserves including acknowledging her relatives when you see them.
yeah, I know ...victim of their own sucess in some ways
Astons of old were niche appeal, by their price tag alone
With a move to more volume, and lower price that goes away
the brand attracts nearly everyone, its not a niche appeal car, in fact I would say its one the brands everyone loves and aspires to
..maybe they need a sub brand of extreme, niche appeal cars, for the geeks ....like more stripped out versions of V12V and V8V ...but then thats never been Astons; they want to offer the gentlmans sportscar, refined yet powerful...
tricky one to get the marketing "just right" I guess...

This has been talked earlier last year but still today, i am none the wiser! i have yet to receive a single response a fellow Aston driver which is very disheartening. Im sure some of the opportunities are missed because of late visibility, perhaps some have experienced the same and 'given up'.... I dont know. I will continue in the hope that one day said gesture is acknowledged!

So, should we EX TVR types put a TVR car club badge in the window
Then at least well know who the " good guys" are......
What a good idea - I'd join! Then at least well know who the " good guys" are......

i've had this a bit with riding lately, a few riders haven't nodded back. my thought process on it was not to stop, because it's their issue not mine.
wave if you want to, f**k em if they don't wave back. don't let it take your good attitude off you.
I went for my first ride of the season this morning and had the same - I thought it was personal - blanked in the car and on the bike in the same morning!wave if you want to, f**k em if they don't wave back. don't let it take your good attitude off you.
