Any specialists in Berkshire for DB9 Pads
Discussion
Hi
Friend of mine has been quoted £1400 for new pads all round by an AM Stealer, does this sound right? Its still on its originals but at the last service (1yr ago) they said that the pads had 3000 miles left and he has done 7500 since!!
Are they pulling a fast one?
Does any know any decent specialists in the Windsor/Reading area who could do them cheaper.

this might sound a bit obvious but pads wear depending on how someone drives. If your mate takes it easy on the brakes they will last longer. They have to play it safe as they probably don't want the pad warning light to come on as it takes over most of the dash display when it does. Don't just put different brakes on because they're cheaper though.

Dealers replace pads at 60% worn, so when the dealer said there was 3K miles left on the pads they were probably estimating to 60% wear. That is why he was able to do 7.5K miles without the warning light coming on/horrible grinding noises.Friend of mine has been quoted £1400 for new pads all round by an AM Stealer, does this sound right? I'd think they'd definitely need changing now though and they are really expensive parts (more than the discs) so £1400 doesn't sound OTT.

£1400 is a scandal if it is just pads.
The genuine Pagid pads can be purchased for ~£700 from DMS. This is for front and rear pads as well as brake pad indicator wires. The indicator wires are often not required and can be salvaged from the old pad as long as the warning light hasn't come on.
So that means the dealer is looking for £700 to fit them, not bad for under 2hours work

I took my cooper s to a bmw dealer today under the false impression it needed a service (service indicator on dash !) Instead it is a way to get you to visit the dealer...where bmw ask 250 quid for a set of pads fitted to a cooper S under the scam of a 'brake pad and disk inspection' fitting pads is easy on every car I've ever owned. Don't see why aston would be any different ?

say £300 ish a pair inc wires + fitting
OE are Pagid - one of the best out there, and usually fitted by many as an upgrade to OE, you could "Upgrade" to a harder compound I guess, but you just end up with pads that dont work so well from cold, and squeal a bit more....

Thanks for the replies, he is going to speak to Lancaster again to clarify the price because it does seem well over the top.
Is that Lancaster Reading? I would go to Amersham myself and take Alan up on his price. I made the move myself pretty quickly after buying the V8V.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
