Hi All

My '07 Vantage is displaying Emission System Service Required again.

My dealer says it's caused by a faulty oxygen sensor(s).

This fault started about 2 years ago.

Between now and then I've had the inflow and outflow oxygen sensors replaced.

Think dealer said there is 2 inflow and 2 outflow.

I've done a search on here regarding the fault and the majority say it's down to 'spirited' driving.

OK fair enough but the car doesn't go above 2,000 revs since the Specs cameras have gone up by me so it's not that.

The fault comes and goes. I'll have it for a few days, then I might not see it again for a couple of months.

I think the problem is down to the Larini cats and exhaust (parameter values need changing) but the dealer 'no' says the oxy sensors are before the cats.

The Larini stuff was fitted by the dealer about 2 years ago so it's a bit of a coincidence.

Car's driven daily.

Any help would be appreciated!

It's a common problem and is down to the system being oversensitive to changes in driving.

Buy one of these and just reset it when it appears;

Warning message - "Emission System Service Required"

I got this code up yesterday. Did the tester fix the problem? If so how do you use it?

Anybody got anything else on this code. Is it this common?

Any help greatly appreciated.

"Tester" won't fix the problem, only tell what the code relates to.
I had it on mine a few months ago, a throttle body clean (as DMS web site) & reset resolved it.
How is it running?
Mine was a bit lumpy at idle before the code came up.

Running OK. After doing a few searches I think I'll run it and see if it solves itself. Can clear the warning on start up by pressing the read button but message appears again once ignition is switched off and on again.

It's generally nothing major to be concerned about (whilst I agree it can be annoying), a lot of the time the fault-code is simply reset by the dealer and it can be caused by a variety of things; including not giving it an occasional "thrashing" - seems like such an inappropriate word to use when speaking about an Aston. I wouldn't recommend plugging anything into it's that's not required - a Control Module or ECU will set you back a whopper if you blow them. - Speaking from experience.

OBDII code readers aren't going cause a problem.
I've used the £25 U480 on loads of cars with no issue (including the Aston)
It's fine for extracting the code and resetting it.

completely agree with Mikey and actively recommend the u480, The cars have to be eobd compliant as such these devices are safe to use, most damage to control units is via jump starting or incorrectly testing such as checking with an ohm meter on connected circuits,

Hi Rick,

I have a 2010 V8V and fitted a Larini rear box and sports cats too. A similar warning has cropped up a twice now since fitting. The AM diagnostics showed the 'post' cat probe caused the warning both times and the system re-set. Are you aware of the probes being prone to being faulty ?

I have odered the u480 and quite happy to re-set myself, but would appreciate your feedback regading the reliability of the cat probes.

Many thanks,
Ian.

Its not the probes failing so much as you are now operating them differently to the way Aston configured them.
It's a common problem on cars with decats or high flow cats of all makes.
The O2 sensor "sees" more gas, many owners just put a spacer on to back the probe out of the gas flow slightly.

Well, U480 diagnostic tool arrived yesterday morning. That's great service through Amazon and supplier.

Read the instructions booklet over coffee this morning and plugged into the car. It read the fault, cleared it, and now back to normal.

Very simple and easy to use.

Cheers,
Ian

And what was the code related to?

The code was P0420. Catalyst efficiency below threshold (Bank 1)

Hope this helps, and thanks for all advice and input here.

Cheers,
Ian

I managed to get two warnings yesterday;emissions and emergency braking.Emissions is a regular and it will cycle in and out over time and dependent on the way you drive. The emergency braking warning happened once on a trip to Normandy and 3000 miles later yesterday.I think this one is brought on by me doing something wrong with the hand brake and last time it had disappeared by the time I got home.
Rick at DMS has checked both, neither is a problem and it took 3 mins with the orange wizzard to get rid rather than wait.
