AMV8 Running Temperature
Discussion
Hi,
Just got my AMV8 back from having a thermostat fitted and it still does not seem right. How quick does it take for your AMV8 to get up to normal running temperature? I've been out for a drive tonight and it's still fluctuating and not getting above 7 O'clock on the temp gauge, I'm lead to believe it should run at 9 O'clock.
Help gratefully received, many thanks.

There's a thread on this very subject from some time ago. Your car's symptoms are exactly like mine were.
It turned out to be a failure of the thermostat seal stopping the thermostat from closing so the engine was always running with maximum cooling. This was diagnosed by the mighty Rick at DMS and replaced under warranty by my local dealer (who did not spot it originally).

although it is possible that the thermostat has been incorrectly assembled during replacement, a few simple test will indicate exactly what the issue is, there are a few possible other causes and in my experience very rare one is the ect sensor (engine coolant temperature) or possibly the dim (driver information module) which on either of these could be just a poor connection, if you have access to a non contact thermometer then taking a reading from the thermostat area and comparing to the gauge would give an indication as to where the fault is,
your readings are incorrect for normal operation and should be investigated,
