Hi All

Whilst taking my V8V for its quarterly detailing this morning I was involved in quite a big accident. My first in 26 years of driving. And I’d appreciate your thoughts and advice please.

For legal reasons I won’t go into detail on the accident other than to say that I wasn’t the one driving whilst apparently on the phone and I wasn’t the one that careered across the road to hit the oncoming Aston head on. All witnesses confirm that there was nothing I could have done.

I'd welcome some guidance on how to handle the claim please. It’s already been reported to the insurance company and the car taken to a secure facility. Police statements and witness statements have all been done and corroborate events. My insurance company have arranged for the car to be accessed by the local Land Rover dealership though.

I'm concerned that IF it’s deemed repairable that it won’t be done to Astons standards.
From the attached pics do you think it’s a write off?

I’d very much appreciate your thoughts.

Hats off to Aston though for the way they make theses cars! I walked away with a couple of cracked ribs and minor abrasions whereas the other guy had to be cut out and air ambulanced (he is ok thankfully).

Kind regards

A stunned but Jason

That looks horrific, must have been extremely shocking for you, main thing is, you're ok.

Your insurance company will likely appoint you a solicitor should you need one, ie to pursue the other person.

Other than that I'd ensure that once liabilty is admitted that you get a like for like car to use while all this is being decided.

I dont know a huge amount about repairs but I personally wouldnt want that car back.

Hope this helps.

Anniesdad on here is very good for advice on this type of thing.

Best of luck.

Oh my gosh, sorry to hear and see that. Cracked ribs are never fun but you will at least heal and be ok.

Regarding the insurance I would try to take it one step at a time; you will always have the right to request it will be repaired to your standard (if that's the way it goes) and can claim the damages that occur to the value of the car as a result - as mentioned anniesdad has sorted out a number of these claims to high end cars.

For the time being, wait and see what they say, and just rest easy and get well soon without letting it bother you too much if you can help it.

That's very sad and looks like a big impact. I hope you get better soon.

I agree with the post above regarding insurance. I'm sure it will sort itself out. Don't worry yourself unnecessarily.

Horrific! But thank goodness you and the other driver are OK. Cars can be repaired or replaced...

At least it wasn't after you had it detailed.tongue out In all seriousness, glad you are OK which is obviously the main thing. Horrible to see an Aston in that shape.

I hope you recover quickly and glad the other driver not too bad, it could be a lot worse. Sit back, recover, let everyone else do their jobs now. A car can be replaced, you can't. Maybe an idea to check GAP insurance if you had it.

All the best.

Be careful about that, inflated credit hire charges are biting people on the arse and bumping up premiums.

there is a lot of absorbed impact there and a lot will need to be cut out and replaced.

the car did it's job beautifully, unfortunitly everyting infront of the 'A' piller looks ronnied.

unfortunatly the bill may not be high enough to be a write off?

contact aston and see if you can get the car to them to fix!

Not nice to see those picture, glad to hear both of you are ok.

Hope you get it sorted out as fast as possible.

One question, looking at the front wing damage, what are they made of? Looks like fibreglass.

Awful pictures, but as mentioned cars can be replaced, glad you're OK-ish.

A very similar accident happened to a work colleague, where the third party jumped a red light and 'T Boned' his BMW, taking the front end off it. As you have done, he had witnesses etc. The insurance company wrote his car off, I'd advised him never to accept the first offer. To my amazement only 1 week after the accident they offered him 'double' what 'we buy any car' had valued his BMW at. Significantly more than the replacement cost judging by Autotrader prices.

I presume they will just re-coup any costs from the third party's insurance. I hope you have a similar experience as I wouldn't want that car back, not even repaired by Aston.

Good luck.

I don't agree with that "like for like" stuff either, but for goodness sake make sure the other party was properly insured before you start going mad on hire cars and Aston approved repairers etc.

Damage looks fairly superficial, but will no doubt be expensive to repair.

Guys

Your support and comments have been a great help and have genuinely made me feel that I’m not going through this alone and for that I thank each and every one of you! I really do appreciate it.

The Insurance company say that they will allocate 65% of the cars value to repairs so assuming its valued at £65k that’s a budget of over £42k to put things right. Sadly I think it will be done for that unless of course there is a lot of damage that we can’t see. I feel the need for a good lawyer coming on.

In a fair world I wouldn’t be penalised for a non fault accident. So let’s hope it’s a fair world.

Kind regards

A Sore and achey Jason

Bllody hell! Like everyone else said, the main thing is you are OK (mainly). Take the psoitives out of it, no one died and even though its an Aston it is replaceable.
Re insurance - tell your insurance company that it MUST be repaired /inspected by an Aston Approved Bodyshop. They may (unlikely) tell you they will take it to any bodyshop but it is your legal right to take it to any garage of your choosing.

Had, in comparison, minor damage to mine last year. My insurance company realised (after a day!) what the car was and sorted out an Aston Approved Bodyshop (does high end cars, Bentleys, Fezza, Porks etc). Did reject the repair to mine twice, but thats a different story - now you can't tell the bonnet has been resprayed.

Let me know (PM if nnecessary) if they are refusing to take it to an Approved Bodyshop, got some information on it somewhere.

I am assuming you have no claims discount, in which case sit back and leave it in the hands of your insurers. However as a minor bonnet repair, respray and new headlight was the best part of £3k it looks like yours is a writeoff.

Gutted for you frown
At least you are relatively unscathed
I'd be pushing hard to get that written off, I'd be very concerned about the integrity of the "glued" joints in the tub.
It will never be quite the same but I suspect it will get repaired as others have said it is intact from the door line/A pillars back.

matg - Aston call it composite but yes fibreglass wings, most other panels are aluminium other than rear arches which are steel.

Definitley get the car to wherever you want it looked at/fixed. I'm sure your preferred AM dealership will contact whoever has your car at the moment and make the necessary arrangements.
Just let your insurance company know.
As the post above says, it's up to you where you have it (possibly) repaired.
Worst case scenario your insurance will say as it's not one of their approved places, so they won't provide you with a courtesy car - but this is something AM or wherever you take it will/should do anyway (I'm talking from my experience of two weeks ago with Merc regarding a similar situation).

Good luck, don't stress too much, and count your blessings that you didn't suffer any serious injury. smile
