Is it crazy idea getting such fairly expensive car from the auction?

My wife fancied Aston DB9 for quite a while now so I thought maybe it is time to get one this year.
Personally I would've chosen Vanquish but I don't like 03MY and can't afford facelift one without selling my F.
I realise that auction purchase is a bit of gambling.
Is it worth to consider buying one from auction for someone who is not mechanic/car trader?
I thought to concentrate on <3 years old to have a bit of factory warranty remaining (is it 3 years for Aston?) for peace of mind.
Is it good idea overall or not?
There are 2 nicely looking DB9s on BCA at the mo

If you have no experience at buying cars from auction then stay clear.....either take somebody with you who knows what they are doing or buy from more traditional routes.......

Thx
I shall deffo take someone who can inspect the car (at least visually etc) with me
I'm not mentally afraid of buying car from the auction, I use to buy much more expensive staff from the auctions (property)
I just don't know if it is worth a try i.e. would I be able to get decent bargain. What is the normal margin for dealers on such cars? I would assume if the dealer sells the car at 65-70k the trade value he paid for it was 55-60k max innit?

Are there many DB9s going though auctions?

yep lots of Astons going through the auctions......normally about 10 to 15 a month......they can be bargains, such as repos from finance houses, but dealers normally pick up the decent ones before they get to auction

I would only go for under 3 years old one to have warranty remaining anyway
(Is it 3 years for Aston, guys?)
I understand dealers want at least 10-15% margin on such cars, is it correct?

dealers will look to have 12-15% (before expenses) from a car so you can expect buying from auction to be 15-20% cheaper, but very high risk

I've bought a few cars from auction, including a 550M. DB9 sale prices were always far stronger than I would expect, and I think you could probably buy cheaper privately. That way you get to check it out more thoroughly as well...

Nice Low 7k Miles 2 year old (58) Silver DB9 going through BCA Nottingham this Thursday!

Agree they seem to get strong prices, and don't forget buyer fee's will be £1k+ to private buyer, but that insures title.

You can also sometimes get a road test prior to completion, if you are the successful bid. (Within a couple of hours of sale)

Thx for advice guys
I will also be considering buying privately as by some strange reason I had far better experience of private purchases then through the dealer (bought my 360 privately as well)
However there are not that many DB9s changing hands privately I believe (no private ads for DB9s under 3 y.o in classifieds at the mo for example)
