Is the premium you pay buying from an AM dealer work the extra cost?

If you car has been very well maintained , check the car over with a fine tooth coombe , hpi it, check service book , if the is a dealer stamp then ring dealer and ask them about the car.

Dealers are more in a private seller,

paint work,serviced if within 3 months,140 point check,extended warratny,wheel refurbs,tyres if under 3mm,brake pads and disc's if below half.MOT,a years tax.

People forget all of this , taxing these cars isnt cheap any more, nor servicing, brakes tyres etc etc.

If the private seller is very cheap , but needs all of the above , hmmmmm.

I am probably in the minority but I would be terrified of spending possibly £50,000 upwards on a private purchase unless I knew the owner, car and history. It maybe false judgement but I prefer to hide behind a dealer with a warranty.

A case in point was my gearbox failure after 7,000 miles. I know it was covered but was very glad the dealer did all the pushing rather than me fighting my corner.

I wouldnt buy private for a £50 or £100K car either ...I thought we were on about main dealer versus independant dealer

I couldn't find a cheaper suitable car from an indie or privately.
I think you can get good deals with the AM dealers if you approach it right.
ATEOD they want the sale as much as anyone else!

Yep, I think you pay extra, but get the checks and start a relationship with a dealer....as you will be back in several times for x,y&z to be fixed under warranty smile

I was comparing Indy to main dealer. Not private

Well I've just been through the same scenario, I informed my local dealer that i was looking for an amv8. However the right spec did not come up, I then found a private car 07 car and the spec was exactly what I was looking for. So I did the deal and it was subject to a 4 year service being done at an Aston dealer and also the 110 point check for the extended warranty being done, I then decided to also take out the extended warranty at 1199.99.

All passed with flying colours so I have ended up with a top spec 07 car with 4 year service and 1 year warranty for at least £6000 less than I would have paid at a dealer. Therefore I can not see what else I would of gained from buying from a dealer.

Think main thing is to find the spec you want and then do a deal based around dealer checking the car and maybe taking out the extended warranty. If car is under 5 yrs old then the warranty is comphrensive after 5 years it's mainly mechanical cover.

Good luck.

As the dealer couldnt find you the same car , how do you know it would of been 6k less.

That was the minimum saving! Cars I had been offered by the dealer with less options and 06 cars were £6k more let alone an 07 car. On the morning of collecting my car the dealer sent me an 07 car with less options and more miles for £50k, so I'm confident my 6k saving is if anything on the conservative side.
