I tried to obtain a more detailed service history from the dealer when I purchased my DB9 and they were unsuccessful. I then approached Aston Martin Works (where the last two services were done) and was politely told that that information was given to the owner at the time of service.

Now I know that giving out previous owner details and even cost of work carried out is a no no but I am just interested in when things like the brakes were done etc. and at what mileage.

Has anyone been able to find this information out?

Slacker you are correct in that any personnel information can not be passed on, as this applies to us also, what I usually recommend in an instance is to gain permission from the previous owner to just give the details as to what work has been carried out as this relates to the car and not the person I do not see an issue, there are two ways you can do this, one ask the servicing garage to ask the previous owner if it is ok, or look at your v5 registration document as this has the previous keeper on it so you can send them a letter to either gain permission or they may be able to help you directly, I have found the previous owners to be very interested in how the car is now and have been extremely helpful with photos invoices etc etc,

The Dealers I spoke to to obtain background on my car before I purchased were quite helpful. They confirmed the work done and mileage etc. and I even got print outs to confirm the work carried out.

Thanks for that.

The dealer said that they had been unable to obtain any service records, he did however say that the last service at Works was £5000.Now this car has all round new discs and pads so I assume that was part of the works service but even so £5k is a lot.

Also I have yet to receive the V5 due to an "administrative error" (by the dealer) and I should get it soon, picked the car up on 17th December 2010. Once I get it I will contact the previous owner by letter and ask if they can send me copies.

Did you get the green slip off the log book?,
if so phone DVLA and see what the log book hold up was, when you can expect it,Turn over can be as little as 10 days.
Ask DVLA the previous owners details,They should tell you if you have the green slip and log book application is in your name
Try directory enquiries and call the previous owner if you can .A.S.A.P. see if they still have the history and invoices.Ask if its been known by any other reg no, if so this might help tracing history.
What was the dealers reasons for it not being present? the dealer should be able to give you the previous owners details.(as its on the log book anyway)

When buying a second hand car i always ask for a look at the log book and try to contact the previous owner BEFORE parting with dosh its amassing what you can find out especially when you tell them the dealer asking price,if its been traded between dealers or even auctioned, painted and bad bits

Never got sight of the log book or indeed had the slip off them (we'll take care of it Sir). As far as I know it is just an administration cock up and each time I call I am assured it is in hand. As soon as I get it I will contact the previous owner.
