I'm thinking of removing the famous fuse 22 on my V12 Vantage but just thought a little research might be prudent first.

The benefits are obvious......louder/better exhaust sound without the horribly over sensetive throttle map associated with the sport button. The question is, are there any serious down sides?

As an example, on F355s there was a trend towards wire locking the exhaust butterfly open (F355s have a similar exhaust setup). I actually did this briefly but fortunately decided I didn't especially like the effect....it seemed to lose all it's charm with the extra volume! And I like loud exhausts as anyone who has heard my TVR V8S can testify!!!! I did however subsequently hear that wire-locking the valve open had the unfortunate side effect of destroying catalytic converters far quicker than the standard configuration.

Does anyone know of any similar concerns with Astons? I've already heard that you lose some low down torque.....not really a problem on a V12V! Does the (already horrendous!!!) fuel consumption suffer noticably? Does the drivability suffer? Would it even be possible to get the "Sport" button reconfigured to just open the valve at the appropriate times without the silly throttle map?

Any of your thoughts on the subject would be great.

this subject has been well documented in the past........the short answer is you will not harm any part of your Aston by removing fuse 22 (most Aston dealers do it).....the general advise is to pop it back in for a couple of days once a month to prevent the valve from sticking. It will show up on a diagnostic check as a blown fuse when you next have your Aston serviced but thats not a problem

Another side effect is the neighbours beginning to hate you, particularly if you go out on early morning drives and like to let the car warm up for a few minutes on the driveway smile

I collected my new 2006 V8V last night and had a read of teh handbook. On the description of Fuse 22 it doesn't mention the exhaust but several other functions? I guess there is only one Fuse 22? Can I just locate it and pull it out? I have to say the car seems loud enough already but it has to worth experimenting smile

I have had the fuse out on my V12V from the first day I picked it up. No downsides at all. The big benefit is that you dont have to press the sport button to get the louder exhaust note. Very useful in winter when you dont want the quicker throttle response and extra torque from the sport button!

My dealer did it for me and confirmed (as he had also done previously for my old V8V) that there are no downsides at all to pulling the fuse out.

Probably less torque in sport mode, if anything, not more I would have thought.

I have only recently learned that the V12 had the equivalent fuse 22 to the V8. Strangely, whilst I couldn't wait to remove it in my V8, I haven't felt the urge in my current car as I love the sound and the kick the 'sports' button brings.

I may give it a try out of curiosity some time.

Eeek, perhaps I'm getting too old !!!
