Apart from the obvious V12 5.9 vs V8 4.3 2+2 vs 2 Seater.

One Touchtronic the other Sportshift

The dimensions show the DB9 is only 330mm or so longer than a V8V but GF's perception is that they are much larger. I suspect that most of the extra length is behind the driver ?

We will share any car that we buy so I need her onboard. For anyone who has either driven both, lived with both or owned both, what is the driving and or ownership experience like ?

Comparisons of the transmissions, behaviour on the commute etc

Is the DB9 a big bruiser cruiser and the V8V a lithe littel terrier or what ?

From my recent test drives the V8 is definitely more sporty but not so quick, when you prod the accelerator on the DB9 all hell breaks loose, the V8 felt a lot more compact and chuckable but when you prod the accelerator on the DB9 all hell breaks loose, I bought a DB9. But then I have a Caterham too for those moments when nimble and chuckable is required.

FWIW the 07 MY DB9 is in my opinion well worth the extra over an 05. Better gear change, steering, seats and I think brakes too, but the brakes bit could be in my head.

Both are suprisingly friendly though I found, unless your foot slips on the DB9 maybe...

Thanks for your input. I too have alternatives for when I want to act daft. I have a 190 BHP MV Agusta 1078cc [F4 312RR] or my BMW HP2 Sport for slightly more sensible rides.

This car is all about indulgence & posing for us. Nowt else really.

I have a DB9 my brother has the entry level Aston the V8V smile......the DB9 feels a lot quicker than the V8V, and the standard paddle shift box in the 9 is both very effective and reliable (no clutch to burn out) ......the smaller V8V is more chuckable

The rear seats on the DB9 are close to useless but you can get somebody in the back for very short journeys.....not too bad for small children

the DB9 is more expensive to run 13-14 mpg and service costs are higher

They're both great cars, but they are very different to drive. Easiest way for me to explain the difference: the DB9 is a great GT, the V8V is much more the sports car. You really should drive each to decide. If you're looking at 4.3 V8Vs, they're plenty quick in spite of what some say -- very close to an early DB9 through the gears. But that's the difference -- a 4.3 V8V does need to be revved to access the performance, whereas the V12 in the DB9 makes major torque, always. If a 4.7 V8V is a possibility, it's superb -- it has the torque that the 4.3 doesn't.

For me, I prefer the more sporting drive of the V8V. They're both wonderful cars.
