This has been posted on AMOC, apologies if duplicated for some people but not a great response on there!

Ladies/Gents,

Thinking of having my V8V remapped by Paramount Performance (mods - let me know if a no names rule applies here) who claim a max increase of 35bhp. Having never had a 400hp+ car this is appealing to me and I have had a couple of cars remapped in the past and been ultra impressed with the results.

Few Questions:

1. Is 35BHP achievable, sounds like a high claim to me?

2. Will I see a little more in terms of MPG, I have on my past cars when re-mapped, about 2/3mpg more.

3. Priced at about a grand, is this expensive, is there another company offering a similar service much cheaper? I'm planning on negotiation regardless because I'm like that!!

4. Paramount Performance - i think have a good reputation, is this true in the AM community or should I only go ProDrive or AM Dealer?

5. Any horror stories I should be aware of? Any particular engine components prone to blowing once re-mapped?

6. Claims to be pretty invisible to standard AM service computer, would anyone like to confirm or deny this?

7. On resale do you think this is a positive or negative?

Any advice would be duly appreciated? I'd love to hear from any V8V owners with experience of having their cars re-mapped etc

Thanks in advance - Jon

how do you get +35bhp with no other mods?

up the rev limit and map it onto 98ron?

id like to see some real customer power graphs myself

£1K is steep for what costs a few hundred quid on any other car...especially if all that extra power is made at 7000-7500revs

Ive never seen an aspirated engine remap really deliver the goods without significant other mods

most of the big claims are for turbo cars, where you see these decent gains

usually on aspirated engines, you need to change filters, cats, exhausts, cams etc, then remap to take advantage of it...hence my cynicism of big claims with no other changes

can you take it to a 3rd party dyno before and after, and if you dont see a +35bhp gain, will they give you your money back? wink

Bogie is spot on - the F20C in the Honga S2000 is the same I got 178 bhp more with a blower, NA you are luck yo get 20BHP with out mods, even then it's not much more and it's all top end.
Plus the thing you really want is mid range torque.
Thats what gets you acceleration wink

Thanks for the feedback much appreciated.

I've since spoke to them and the figures were based on a car with other mods, exhaust, cats, filters etc.

BTW > Gentleman I spoke to at PP said that the Vantages were prone to heavy fluctuations in power outputs with one dyno'd at 330bhp which I'd not heard of before

A few years ago, when I had a V8V, they quoted me a 60bhp increase with a remap, cats and a back box.

Riiiiight.

"eh mister, you know that posh car youve bought, they are often down on power you know...but spare a grand, and we can give you it back.. " ...errr...thanks mate, how kind wink

dont tell me; it also does 5mpg more, 0-60 is 1 second faster too, and it runs far smoother than those engineers at the factory can get em to go...honest guv wink

all a load of bullocks if you ask me.......sure you get some sort of increase , but the amount is the real question...really not worth it on these cars IMO

Go to Nicholas Mee and get the Prodrive kit instead.

Cathalm - What sort of increases could I expect if I went ProDrive?

Hi,
I've had extensive experience of modding my Vantage (also a MY07) at Paramount.
Click on these threads for my feedback on the Milltek full exhaust and ECU work I had done there...

I dont have an independent dyno run to show you and we can debate about claims a lot. The quoted figure is 425bhp though and I can simply testify that it's a decent difference. You also get a warranty, extra pages in your handbook for the next owner and a lovely lit new switch with 3 modes for your exhaust opening and closing. It's good and much cheaper now is all I can say and since prodrive are the Aston race team it helped with piece of mind. There's always the factory upgrade too or a 4.7 :0)

Thanks for the links SLINC - interesting reading.

Maybe time to start looking into the ProDrive option.

Appreciate the feedback
