But perhaps not if you're the Cygnet which was announced on Thursday. Available in Black or White (good fit with the Swan Lake film)it is without doubt the biggest styling dead end since the Atom. The price of £30,000 seems incredulous for a city car which usually retail for about £10K

Now we all know that car manufacturers have to list low emission cars so as to satisfy all sorts of rules and regs. Have Aston Martin fulfilled the requirement and produced a butt ugly car at a scandalous price in the hope that no-one will buy it I wonder.....?

Dear God ,some of you just do not seem to grasp the importance of Cygnet! I was fortunate to be at the factory on Monday. It was pointed out "without that (pointing at the Cygnet)we will not have those(pointing at A DBS, DBS VOLANTE, V8 VANTAGE)This car is so important to Aston Martins survival.

To be honest I would love to buy my wife a cygnet , but she likes her Honda. Hopefully sufficient people will purchase a Cygnet, believe me they will help to perpetuate the species!!!!!!!

Whilst it is important for meeting CO2 targets I suspect many will be given as deal clinchers on 1-77's and DBS's smile
I wonder - is the target set on the cars they actually sell or just on the range offered wink
Maybe they would have been better off Maxpowering a Nissan Leaf or talking to Tesla

I would like one but 30k seems a bit steep.
18k (similar money for like a 500 abarthe) then they would be onto a winner
if someone is given one when buying a new dbs etc and dont want it i'll have it for nothing biggrin i'll even come and pick it up and drive it away from you smile

Do you believe every "fact" a marketing department throws at you?

This is a disaster because I don't think these will sell, so it won't offset anything, and is a big waste of effort.

There's other ways to deal with these issues.

It is expensive and I think it's awful but the Ferrari kitted out Fiat 500's are selling for £40k, which is wore imo.

1) It doesn't do anything at all to solve the emissions "problem" unless they SELL a LOT of them. Which is highly unlikely. Just offering it for sale does absolutely nothing to help the emissions problem. On the off chance that they do sell well enough to solve the emissions issue, then when people think "Aston Martin" they'll think of a Toyota iQ. How utterly sad.

2) The "Ferrari" Fiat 500s are NOT badged as Ferraris. It's a "Tributo" or a "Dealer Edition." Critical difference.

3) Part of the AM mystique is to do with their being expensive and exclusive. An 18 grand "Aston Martin" Toyota iQ is not exactly what the marque needs. At 18K it probably would sell -- to people who want to be able to say they "own an Aston Martin." Then they'll be all over the place and it will become what an Aston "is." Game over for the marque. We don't have any 18K Ferraris (the Fiat 500 is NOT a "Ferrari"), Maseratis, Lambos, Bentleys, Rolls-Royces, etc.

4) It's an absolute abomination. Aston management should be grossly embarrassed.
