V8 Vantage questions
Discussion
Hi,
Took a look at a 55 plate V8 Vantage today, it's done 25,000 miles but the last service on the car was
in January 2008 at 19,000 miles (Full Aston Service history up to this point).
Car looks good , obviously requires a service and also needs an MOT.
So i have the following questions :
Would like to have the car checked over by either an AM dealer or preferably a good independent - I'm based in Fleet , so Surrey / Hampshire border - so DMS are a little too far away.
I'd look to buy the car if it checks out OK and then from reading on here it seems to be a good idea to head to DMS for the service that is required. The service quote from AM in Reading was +- £1100.
I've been reading the thread on Warranties , i think if i get the check done and a full service i'd be tempted to give this a miss and just bank the cash - thoughts ?
The car has obviously not had a service stamp in the service book since January 2008.
So would this put you off buying the car ? although it's only done 6,000 miles since the last service.
Car is up for £40k, i'd be looking to try to secure it for £37k or thereabouts.
Thanks,
Nick

For me I would not worry too much due to the low miles, but obviously remember when it comes to selling you may reduce your potential market as I know some people definitely would care.
I have bought a car that slipped by 6 months before on a service, if the car is a keeper then it will even out as long as you keep the servicing after that point.

I wouldn't be too worried about the missed services if I could get it AM inspected/serviced as part of the deal. At least that way you can negotiate anything that needs to be rectified into the buying price. Given the mileage I would want some indication of what sort of life there is left in both the clutch and the brakes because they are the potential high cost items at this stage. If the seller won't agree to any of this then I would walk away.
I am in the same area but not aware of anyone around here that does independent inspections so you are either going to be into Lancaster Reading or Stratstone Amersham.
Would like to say the AM extended warranty is the right approach but it seems to have so many exclusions that I am unlikely to be taking it up when mine comes up for it later this year.
Good luck with your potential purchase.
