Well it's that time of year, my 06 Plate V8V is creeping towards 5 Years old, I have extended te warranty for the last 2 years but I've had absolutely no problems at all.

Now the Law of Sod suggests that if I don't extend the warranty something serious is going to occur.

What do you think I should do? It's only got 22k on the clock so it shouldn't be lifing any mechanical parts. I note Bogie's post a while back (new Stat and something else) and at 50k miles that seems more than reasonable.

It doesn't run out til mid March, perhaps Rick could shed some light on any experience with similarly aged cars?

My only doubt is that I have a 5yo Range Rover and parts have started failing costing circa £500 to replace.....

Something pretty serious would have to go wrong to cost £1200 to fix wouldn't it?

TIA
S

I'd say the V8V will be a lot more reliable than your RR smile

Personaly choice really, the car is JUST at that age where you start to consider not renewing and also using independants like DMS for servicing rather than AM...

nearly due in for yearly service here and nothing ill to report

like any insurance policy its a gamble for piece of mind

£1200 a year isnt a lot if you have it in at the dealers every month for diagnostics at £150 an hour

but over 3 years thats £3600 that could be in your pocket

youd need something pretty bad to do £3600 on a 5 year old car with 22k on the clock

mines been out of warrany for 3rd year running now ...still only a thermostat and sensor replaced (touch wood)

if it makes it to 100K miles in a few years with just that ...maybe some suspension bushes and shocks at sometime (time for sportpack upgrade) then I will feel like Ive got value for money out of it smile

I'm in the same boat. Renewal due in March and £1200 is a lot of money to fork out on a car that has under 12k miles on it and has so far be totally solid.

This will be my third year so having spent £2400 on "piece of mind" I think it's probably worth the risk.

I'll probably just stick the money ina rainy day account and let it accrue until its needed.

I'll get Rick to give it a once over during the service to make sure all is in order before it expires just to be sure wink

I have a Range Rover...it has been in the garage 3 times in the last 6 months for repair. I also have an Aston, it has not been in the garage for repair in the last 2 years!

I will not be renewing the warranty on the Aston as I need the money to repair the RR.

LOL my Range Rover has just had its first repair in my ownership after lots of random messages it needed a new speed sensor wire

thing is, I reckon its sods law, if I spend £900 on a warranty for that, it wont cover all the weird n wonderful software quirks that a Range has wink

Exactly! Luckily the RR came with a 2 years dealer approved warranty so I'll certainly get my monies worth I think...
