Revs but delay on speed
Discussion
Hi all
Would appreciate some advice. I have a 2009 v8 vantage. Done nearly 14k miles endive noticed something strange when I accelerate. So standing start, foot down in first no issues. First, change to second foot down no issues, the same for second into third.
But. Change to fourth. Accerlerate hard and at approx 4000 revs the rev counter and engine noise increase and then within a second the revs drop a little and acceleration starts. The same happens fourth to fifth.
Can anyone offer any guidance as to what the flipping heck is going on.
Thanks.
Josh

Thanks for the response. Took a guess at the clutch as well but in all honesty me understanding how a clutch works is like a monkey trying to understand a nuclear reactor.
So if it is the clutch is that the sort of thing covered by the warranty or should I expect it to need replacing at 14k miles?
Thanks
Josh

Hi Josh it does sound like a clutch issue, the clutch is covered under warranty if it is a mechanical failure if it is worn then just like brake pads the frictional material is not covered, the clutches can wear out in anything from 10000 miles to 50000+ this depends on driving style, resting your foot on the clutch pedal, or using the clutch to hold yourself still on a hill etc will significantly reduce the life of the clutch,
Parts are plus vat and the labour is listed at over 8 hours
clutch kit pre 2009 £919.03 post 2009 £887.68
flywheel pre 2009 £301.85 post 2009 £354.33
slave cylinder pre 2008 £187.82 post 2008 £258.20
spigot bearing £5.96
flywheel bolts £8.17
clutch bolts £1.62
manifold gaskets £5.78 x2
exhaust gaskets £8.62
brake fluid and some gear oil
I would recommend replacing all the components not fitting such as the flywheel will only cause the job to be redone again much sooner, so it is not cost effective,
so pre 2008 parts £1733.56 including vat
post 2009 parts £1843.37 including vat

Thanks all. Dealer confirms it is the clutch
Not happy at all. A clutch on a normal daily drive car (ie no track days ever) should last more than 14k miles. Shouldn't it? This is likely to precipitate a sale.
That all said I must say again the quality of the dealership is superb. Has been since I bought the car. They are efficient friendly and professional in equal measure.
Best regards
Josh

Mileage seems to depend entirely how you drive it.
For me, the only really annoying thing about the car is that ridiculously long reverse gear, the only way to reverse slowly uphill is by slipping the clutch constantly. If your drive / car park force you to do that, or you often do 3-point turns on cambered roads, then I'd expect the clutch to last much less time.
And, of course, reegular full revs, dump clutch at traffic lights isn't going to make it last any longer!

Hi
I know driving style plays a big part. But I do not do the miles on the right roads to spank the car. Re reversing I do reverse onto my drive but that is a downhill slope. The stupid thing is, my plan was to remain an AM customer. I was going to trade it in for a new car sometime early next year when it gets to nearly 3 years old. But. won't be doing that if the clutch is going to cost me.
Best regards
