My much maligned OH has booked us a weekend away at Whatley Manor to be taken any time this year, and I recall a couple of people on here who know it. I am aiming for hopefully decent hot weather, probably late spring early summer

I was thinking it might be nice to meet up with a few local Aston owners who know the area for a drive out, lunch or whatever.

Any (polite) suggestions, let me know.

Di, you must visit the beautiful village of Lacock. The Red Lion does good grub and has a huge car park.
I'm sure that (apart from myself) there will be a few SW Astoneers who would like to meet up with you.

I could attend from Plymouth.

Be helpful if you could fix a date a couple of months beforehand.

I live only about 4 miles from Whatley. Would be a great place for a meet. Not eaten there for ages but was one of the best in the area great place to relax and chill !

Lovely lovely place.

Here's a lovely shot of ecurie25's Vantage at Whatley Manor:

I've been there in that exact car with the O/H. Very impressed.

It's very good, although not up to the standard of Le Manoir. But then it does cost rather less!
It does have the advantage of the spar, of course.

Last October I went to Whatley Manor. Great place. Make sure you have dinner in The Dining Room. You'll have a fantastic weekend. All the best.

My wife and I have stayed there a couple of times and both visits have been fantastic, both their restaurants are great, the Spa and treatments are excellent as are the staff. Its a beautiful location, quite a few villages in the local area with some nice pubs and if you like walking, Westonbirt arboretum is just up the road. I would compare it to le manoir, its better value for money, the food is on a par and it has the advantage of the Spa which le manoir does not. They have a private cinema room too which you can book out for £30 too which makes an alternate way to end the evening and finish your wine! I would also rate it better than Calcot and Cowley. Each to their own of course. I'd be up for a meet provided im free!

We went to Le Manoir last year, and whilst loving the experience, we did feel a bit out of place especially during the lunchtime on the lawn. Us in shorts, most of the others, 'ladies wot do lunch' long dresses, high heels, the lot.

Oh and we stayed in one of the best suites where my OH managed to hit his shin bone twice on the corner of the wooden Ottaman at the end of the bed, leaving a deep cut and a scar he carries to this day.

Nothing to do with the quantity of bubbly consumed whistle

Actually, it honestly wasn't down to booze and left us pretty pi**ed off.

Reception manager didn't seem that concerned, but we couldn't be bothered to make a scene.

Manoir is nice but definately not as good as it's reputation would have you believe - the taster manue seemed to be padded out with a few not so great courses. I stayed there and did really enjoy the accomodation though.

An earlier poster mentioned you should visit Lacock when you're down at Whatley - I would second that, a fanstasic village in this day of new build Barrat homes that we live in. I have stayed at the Sign of the Angel there several times and would recommend it to anyone - unpretentious, full of character and great home cooked food.

Thanks for the tip on lacock, took the car for a its first 2011 spin and popped into the Red Lion for lunch, village and pub packed but having booked ahead had a nice table by the fire, great food and service with a smile. I think the village abbey is famous for filming some of Harry Potter and this is bringing in tourists.
