Planning this years adventures and posting another topic got me thinking. Not strictly an Aston specific topic but anyone got any good ideas for different/great driving holidays that they have done and would like to share? Done all the obvious European ones and looking for something different. Ideally not one that involves shipping the car though! I already do that once a year to SA.

Might make an interesting thread at this grotty time of year!

Cheers!

I did a holiday for a couple of weeks driving down through California, across Arizona and up to Nevada, a few years ago now.

Email me if you want some more info on it.

It was superb!

Thanks Oblio. Done that and loads of other Stateside stuff. As stated want something to do in my own car that doesn't involve shipping it out!

I take it that you have already done the Picos mountains.

It's looking like a favourite for one of the trips I'll do. Finding some fantasic places to stay. Mum was danish so a little bit of history too - although I think Denmark would be the least interesting of the three driving wise.

There are some great driving roads and good places to stay e.g. Paradors.

I wasn't looking at the roads when I was there but I'm sure you're right - and I've certainly stayed in some great Paradors. Worth checking out.

On the face of it I could see why you'd think that but Sweden is pretty flat for a lot of it. If you drove from, say, Copenhagen to Arhus I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. Make sure you go to Roskilde on the way though, it's stunning. And, personally speaking, I'd drive east from Oslo to Uppsala, then Stockholm, then down that way.

I'm jealous just thinking about this, by the way...

Whoops sorry...misread your post. I didnt realise you still wanted to use your car when you said you didnt want to ship it (I thought you meant anywhere in the world and you would hire a car)

Anyway...getmecoat

I go with a group of friends every year for a tour normally in France, this year thinking about the Picos Mountains in Spain.

May I suggest that a new folder under "General gassing" for guys to share their touring experiences, routes, hotels with maybe pictures to give other members ideas for touring holidays?idea

I might be able to help out with this....

Sweden is Ok, but Norway is much much better.
As for European roads there are so many that it would take a lifetime to do them all.
Northern Spain, Andorra, Sicily are all places to consider too.

As has been said, America has a decent amount of roads, particularly in Death Valley and Yosemite.

feel free to PM me if you want a chat.
