It's my first ever Aston and every single time I climb in the cabin I find it has a very agreeable, distinct and unique aroma. It goes way past that new car smell you have for the first few days of ownership.

I'm finding it adds an extra layer to the pleasure of ownership and would dearly love to keep that special bouquet around as long a possible.

Any comments would be gratefully received and thank you in advance.

+2 One year on and I still get a thrill when I get into the car and I just hope the smell lasts and lasts. I looked for a leather cleaner that would compliment the smell rather than over power it and I found Z-10 "Leather in a Bottle" which seems to work a treat. Whatever you pick for yours, enjoy smile

Best product out there for cleaning and feeding the leather whilst keeping the fantastic smell is Gliptone.

These two;

I can also vouch for Gliptone. I am a big fan of the distinct aroma in the V8V cabin and after a small amount of research Gliptone was the obvious choice to keep the leather in good condition. It is very effective and I was so impressed that I used it on the 5 year old leather in one of our other cars - it was a transformation and demonstrated how ineffective the Autoglym products had been previously.

I know what you mean, little in the world touches a british car (XJ-S for me) for the interior smell, providing of course it is one of the rare dry ones, when they get wet Wilton Carpet smells like wet Spaniel. I have driven a couple of '70s AM V8's that smelt of oily wet dog too!

Its essentially the smell of leather inside my V12 Vantage but yes it comes with very good associations, namely that of being inside a V12 Vantage. I'm sure the V8 smells equally nice.

I also have a TVR and a Lotus and they all smell different. For what it's worth I don't think either smell like 'a canoe'!

The DB6 smells like an oily 1960's gentleman's club. It's actually very nice!

But yes the Vantage takes the prize.

I wish this thread had been on earlier.
After doing a bit of research on a detailing site, I purchased Raceglaze leather balm to keep the leather looking good - but mainly to enhance the original smell.

I applied it on Saturday and it smells horrid. It's that bad that after taking the car for a spin the Mrs asked what the odd smell was on my clothing - a bit like Dettol

I will clean the leather and try the Gliptone

Thank you for all for your feedback. One last question, is Gliptone suitable for use on silver stitching?

my DB9 is now 5 years old and that heavenly smell of leather still makes me smile as soon as i sit in it. I use an unperfumed leather cream regularly which seems to enhance it.

My DB7 VV is 12yrs old and still has a really strong smell of leather. It smells the same as the two XJ-S I owned years ago. Is'nt it funny how you never forget a smell? I can still remember the fantastic smell of leather when as a lad in the 60's, I used to get taken to school in a neighbour's new S-Type. I also agree that my Cerbera dose not smell like a canoe, It smells great and i love the smell every time i get in it. I use Gliptone on both.

real leather dosent smell of anything thought does it, its what its treated with to make it useable or what we put on it, that gives it the smell

....unless there are cows out there with a lovely Gliptone or Autoglym aroma LOL wink
