I have access to a few 'private' roads near mine which I regularly drive in the Aston and I push it pretty hard. I'm finding that I am experiencing brake fade quite quickly and I can't help thinking that the brakes should be able to take a bit more punishment before they go all spongey on me, I don't recall my 911 brakes fading like this. I'd be concerned that if I were to do a trackday on these brakes then within a lap I'd have lost a significant amount of stopping power which would ruin the fun!

My pads were changed in August by main dealer prior to purchasing the car so I presume they are standard road equipment. Is this to be expected? I've thought about some track pads but I hear they take ages to get up to temperature which isn't ideal for road use.

Any similar stories out there? Any recommendations?

Cheers

Bit suprised to be honest. I've done a few track days in various V8V versions - 4.3, 4.7, manual, sportshift, N400 etc and not had a problem. Never done more than ten laps in a row though and I'm sure if subjected to REAL sustained track use then, just like virtually any road car ( including Porsches) the brakes would need uprating. But to get brake fade fairly quickly on road??? Remeber going to an Aston day at Donnington - to try the V12V - and Aston had all variants there which were being pounded round by customers all day long with no probs. They were all standard cars brakes wise.

Edited for usual crxp spelling!

I went to the ring last summer and did a few laps but had no brake fade at all.
Have you checked fluid levels?

Sounds like jonAMV had some ring action too when his brakes faded.....am guessing it was slightly different ring action! :-)

dosent sound right to me

Ive done 20 min track sessions on the OE Vantage brake setup before and they work just fine

they are what other cars have as "upgrades" already ; pagid black

the only pads you can fit "better" will be more extreme compounds, that squeal like a pig when cold and only work when hot

maybe worth getting the fluid changed/ bled if its been in a while -should be done yearly I think on a Vantage

dosent sound like theyve glazed over, if they were on new and you drive hard

always worth checking the bedding in procedure is done correctly from new also

Very surprised that spirited road driving caused any kind of fade. I drove mine around the Nordschleife just about as hard as possible and started to get a long pedal, but no real fade. I have done trackdays and driven down the Stelvio Pass with its gazillion hairpins and again no fade at all.

Something not right there, has the fluid been replaced?

This is what I'm thinking, there's no way I should be able to get them to fade

It is worth getting the pads checked too, you may have glazed them if you drove on your private roads soon after they were fitted...

I have had exactly the same thing - and actually just called my delaer this morning to be checked... I had new rears in November.

After hardly any spirited driving (and I mean a minute or two max) then it happened to me twice in last month.... never had anything like it in porschjes or anything else to be honest... Feels like massive brake fade.

Weird - its in to be checked weds....

Siy – Thanks for your message, you sound like you have had exactly the same issue as I am experiencing. Can you let me know the outcome of the check on Wednesday?

Of course I will do.... It may be with them for a couple of days as they are doing one or two other things... but will be sure to let you know..

I suspect reading other answers, glazing may be the issue (not that I fully understand!)...

will keep you posted...

If you're using the brakes in anger then brake fade is not uncommon. As others have stated, some Pagid Yellows and high temp fluid will make a big difference. For some that still doesn't fix completely - if that's the case you can start looking at ducting/cooling options.

Cheers Simon

Stuart - not in anger but having to extract a fair bit of braking force from them for 1 to 2 minutes. Not experienced it before in previous motors

Are you sure its fade? I find with mine around my own private test track that after a few big stops they start to gruble a bit and need a bit more of a shove, also around Bedford and Silverstone in particular they to protest a lot, but they never fail to stop me...well not yet any how..!

I'm not sure what the technical name is, but after some hard cornering I believe the pad-disc gap can widen. As a result, the first initial stab of the brakes will feel ineffective. Does this sound right?
