Having spent months researching and test driving a range of V8V and contemplating whether to wait and save for a 4.7, a colleague threw the proverbial spanner in by suggesting I instead consider a vanquish.
Now I realise we are talking of a rather diffrent proposition on many levels and I've yet to drive one. But before I do and find I love the damm thing, I'd like some indications and experiences with owning and running one. It'd be a second, weekend car which would allow me to have an 11 year old on board too....or would it?
Advice always appreciated.

Having had similar dreams and knowing that the transmission is the achilles heel of the older ones I wondered about getting an older cheaper one and having the factory manual conversion done leaving me with an great reliable car at reasonable cost. Finding a manual is possible but they are rare.

Don't know about running them, but Harry Metcalf (the Evo guy) wrote in today's Sunday Times that he thinks they are a great investment, last of the Newport Pagnell cars, and arguably one of the best looking AMs ever.

Its a different perspective on running costs, I'm expecting to lose £12k per year on my Vantage, maybe £800 per year on servicing, £1500 per year on petrol. Many people obsess over petrol costs, and servicing, then forget depreciation which is maybe 5 times those two combined

Crystal T, IMHO do your homework, check out a number of cars and if you settle on a Vanquish you will have a very special car. Different gravy, but then I may be biased. rolleyes

If you are going to include depreciation into the running costs equation then the Vanquish is the way to go. This model may even start to rise in value in the next few years.

Can I take full credit for this splendid idea?

Having read the other thread I think you are looking at a classic, with high, but not astronomical, running costs. As mentioned above, looking at the total cost of ownership, if you are intending to keep it then it is likely to cost no more than a V8V or DB9.

The AMOC Forum is also well worth a look.

Doesn't help the running costs, but it shows one for sale at least (to tempt the wallet).

It really does depend , like alot of cars , you can get a good one , just regular servicing costs , i have a fare few of them .
Or a bad one costing 5 - 7k in a year , i have had a couple of these , or a really bad one costing over 10K in running costs last year , i had 2 of those.

When you find a car , check the service history , then contact those garages that carried out the work , for any other info that might have been reported but was not undertaken by the customer.
