What are people's thoughts on red brake calipers?

Personally I really like them and I'm about to get my grey ones changed for red ones for no other reason than that.

Am I mad to spend £1300 on a pure extravagance?

I like them – especially on black and grey cars.

I think it makes the car look slightly ‘sportier’ but I can understand other people thinking it is unnecessary and is slightly ‘brash’ for an Aston.

I bought my car second hand and waited until I found one that had been specced with red. I don’t think I could bring myself to pay £1300 to change.

You may find someone who would like a change and do a swap?

They look good but only with certain colour combos. I would personally only have them with something else to tie in the colour scheme too - such as red stitching inside.

Take them to somewhere like KDS who will do a proper strip down and repaint for around £400!

Thanks for the responses everyone - as usual with PH a few options there that I hadn't considered.

I wouldn't paint them myself as I think the end result would be a bit amateur but it maybe worth getting a professional job done if it saves £900 (not heard of KDS Though)

Rick - are you there???? Can you do this whilst the car is with you?

Will a paint shop also be able to fix heat proof ASTON MARTIN 'stickers' as on the genuine article? - if so it would be a no brainer to me.

I will work out the costs, I would not recommend using stickers as they will peal, the lettering requires painting, If there is interest what I can do is have a set in stock ready for painting so we can do them on an exchange basis, the calipers require completely stripping so would have new seals and dust covers bleed nipples, and retaining bolts, so would basically be reconditioned,

When I first viewed mine (tungsten Silver Roadster) I had the same dilema - it looked so boring with grey calipers!
So I ordered a set of red ones and had them fitted before delivery; yes it was expensive, but I sold the grey ones on eBay for £400+ to a guy in Sweden who also paid the shipping costs!
The car now looks (IMHO) soooooooooo much better that it was worth the expense and (little) hassel, and they're genuine Aston calipers when I come to sell!

A proper paint job on current calipers will look PERFECT and will last, as long as its done properly. Nothing wrong with doing it this way at all and should be £400-500 for a very good job including retaining the branding.

Rick - worth noting that when Lambo do these (and they charge anything from £500-900 depending on who you speak to) they use a decal and then clearcoat over the top and it doesn't seem to peal or have problems..

I'm in the market for an early Meteorite V8V at the moment and would prefer red calipers but I am surprised that in a couple of months of looking I haven't seen a single one with them fitted. I would certainly consider getting the calipers repainted when I find the right car though smile
