This was definitely a problem in earlier cars, when I owned a 2006 it was fixed under a service bulletin... Dealer MUST have heard of it, I would have expected it to be fixed on a 2007 car.

It's a very common problem, I think its service reference 236 for the new type of oil.

i'm in an 07 and after reading some reports of issues here i spoke to my dealer about it.before i continue,i have had the car from new and have always been deliberately slow changing from 1 to 2 from the very beginning, noticing it didn't feel like it wanted to go through quickly.
they explained about the oil changes from 07 onwards but test drove the car for me anyway.came back with the opinion operation was normal.
i also find after 10 minutes or so the oil warms sufficiently to facilitate smooth changes fairly quickly.

you shouldn't be driving hastily when your car is cold anyway.naughty boy!!

Not driving quickly when cold, just driving normally. By the time i've gently eased it into 2nd after a couple of gentle pushes i've lost a bit of speed and prob going to slow for 2nd. I may have to leave it at dealers over night because its 100% perfect when warm. My car is a 56 plate my07 not a proper 2007

I listed this on my site as a common problem this is what i put on the issue,

There has been much reported on the difficult 1st and 2nd gear selection of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage when the gearbox is cold,

Firstly this was a know concern and by the owners request if a complaint was made whilst the vehicle was under warranty then a modification was carried out, This included changing one of the selection levers on the gearbox itself, a modification at the gear lever to help with reverse gear selection and a modified oil,

If your car has had the modification and you are still experiencing difficulty with gear selection this can be caused usually by one of these problems, all of which are relatively easy to rectify,
1. the selection cables have been incorrectly set
2. the selection cables locate in u shaped brackets the locking mechanism is not the best and can allow the cable to ride up, firstly causing difficult selection and secondly losing gear selection altogether,
3. and lastly where the cables attach the selection arms themselves are mounted in rubber, these can split again at first feeling quite sloppy and eventually becoming completely detached so again losing selection altogether,

If your car has not had the modification there are a few options, the first one is to have the gear oil replaced and an additive added this can make a big improvement and no other rectification may be necessary, as most of the cars with this issue are around 4 years old at which time the 4 year service has the requirement to replace the oil so no additional costs should be incurred and insist on the additive,

If there is not enough of an improvement for your liking then the modification and setup will be the only choice, but correctly done will improve selection

Definitely suffer from this, mines a 57. Also not driving fast, coasting but have to almost force it through to 2nd.

I take it once rectified it's much better?
