Does your power steering judder on large applications of lock, eg when manoevering?
It's not a big deal, just interested to know if it's a case of 'they all do that sir' or not.
Absolute blinder of a car though. Seriously, I was expecting a lot and it's absolutely blown me away. I can't imagine how anyone could ever tire of driving one.

If you mean vibration through the steering then no. Mine does act at though the two front wheels are not tracking the same arc on slow speed manoeuvering at full lock i.e. you move a bit then it's as if one tyre "slips" a few cms. My TVR did the same and I was told it was completely normal.

For stationary manoeuvring....Yup it's normal, although not nice!
Changes to the steering have given the V12 a more direct & "pointy" 2.8 turns lock to lock, but the judder is also worse than a standard V8; the good news is once you are on the move it's all plus points!

I know gallardos do it but I thought that was the 4wd showing it's agricultural roots! Mind you nothing wrong with that (David brown!).
I didn't expect it on a rwd car. I wonder if the balboni does it too. No matter it's just a reminder that the car was bulit for the open road not a multi-storey car park.
I can now see clarkson's comment about 'an ending' from a different angle. It's not about the sports car coming to an end per se, but rather the big na v12 with a manual gearbox, you know, the ones where you do the blipping on the downshifts. Ferrari have already pulled the plug, lambo have stopped making the murcie, next to no chance of the new one being manual. To their immense credit Aston Martin are the last to offer it. Sadly everyone is buying 'touchtronic' because it's easier to drive in London and people with no driving ability are less likely to stall while trying
to show off.

Another question. My car doesn't seem to like manoevering generally. It's not something I'll hold against the finest driving machine I've ever owned but I get a very strong whiff of clutch from using reverse gear in particular.
The clutch in general seems a bit 'racy' and requires a bit of slip to get it moving, the biting point being quite late in the pedal travel. I quite like it but I can't remember the DBS feeling like that.

It's another "they all do that sir" to a lesser or greater degree, my Roadster was worse than the V12 it double "whiffed" every time you even looked at reverse !The clutch in general seems a bit 'racy' and requires a bit of slip to get it moving, the biting point being quite late in the pedal travel. If it's bad there is a warranty "fix" that reduces the clutch smeill inside the cabin!

It took a bit of getting used to, after I first got my V12V. I recall a couple of cringe making incidents; the first on a test drive, when I stalled at the lights, and in my desire to not hold up the long queue behind, inadvertently engaged reverse fortunately rectified by the salesman with a firm "you're in reverse sir". The second was up in Scotland trying to make a quick get away into a gap joining a major 'A' road, at an uphill junction. The burning clutch smell lasted a good 5 mins I'm getting the hang of it now, but it doesn't appear as clear-cut a 'bite' point as in my TVR Chim....think I just need more practice!!

I've not had to do much manouvering in my V8, but already hate using reverse, its as tall as second gear, so needs a bit of clutch slip to get moving, particularly when its an uphill reverse, like my drive. Then there is that unpleasant smell of burnt clutch to say that you've just used another £50 of clutch plate.The upside is that the car can probably exceed the national speed limit in reverse, but can't see too much call for that feature. The only time I've ever gone backwards at 70mph it didn't end terribly well.
Thanks for the replies. Certainly an amount of uphill reversing was involved yesterday and as the overall gearing is increased on the v12 vantage, it's probably not too surprising.
The smell didn't get into the cabin but I still had the it in my nostrils when I went to bed last night!
Regardless, I wouldn't swap it for an auto in a million years.

Mine does the judder when turning the wheel when stationary but Ive not had the burning clutch smell at all in the V12V. I used to get it all the time in the V8V in fact it was almost impossible not to reverse without it or without stalling it. They have cured the problem in my eyes in the V12V however - the clutch is a pure delight, so much lighter and easier to use in traffic and when reversing.
