HI Chaps,

wondered if any of you had any experience of the above??.....A very good friend of mine has just emigrated rather hastily (hes in luuurrrvve wink ) ....and has left me with the unenviable task of selling his AMV8 N400 (upside is I do get to enjoy it smile ) ......I have spoken to a few AM garages and specialists .....but the trade prices I am being shown are woefull....and selling privately just does not seem to be working at the moment......so I had the bright idea of maybe offering it for sale in another geographical region.
I just dont know the legalities of doing this, and what other pratfalls this may entail .....and, more importantly, would it make financial sense??

I would love to hear your thoughts

Why doesn't he just take it with him and sell it there?

My business partner has just moved to Oz and took his 997 as a personal import (main criteria being that he had owned the car for 12 months minimum) and it's now worth 3 times it's UK value. He plans to use it for 2 years then sell it before he returns to Blighty

I would imagine that NZ is similar or at least if he has it there it would be easier to sell in Oz and make a small fortune. I know AM's are very expensive in Oz as well.

Or, controversially, he could just keep it and enjoy it in NZ!

sorry Jase ...should have mentioned that my mate has moved to Dubai ......and has another vehicle there already .....so I am looking at the possibility of selling it to someone in Aus or NZD from here in the UK

If you don't know the ins and outs, I'd steer well clear.

Selling a car like this privately in the UK has enough hassles. Imagine trying to do all that remotely with the additional hassles of transporting it, dealing with export/import paperwork, insurance etc etc.

If your mate needs you to sell it quickly, he'll have to accept the price you can get. And a dealer is likely to be the least hassle prone.

You could also try a "broker" type arrangement. I've used Dion at elmscollection.com before, and he's a top fella.

Doh, sorry misunderstood

As has just been said, it's tricky selling long distance especially to NZ & Aus as they have significant luxury car taxes (except as a personal import, which as stateed you need to have owned the car for 12 months and be permanently emigrating to the country) so it's not as economical.

That said, the strength of the Aussie dollar may make it a more likely proposition.

You maybe better off posting in the Australia forum as I know that have had threads about vehicle importation

The import tax is the killer. Putting aside the fact that the potential purchaser can't physically inspect the car, once he's paid the import tax he may as well have bought one locally and in a country, NZ & Aus, that doesn't chuck millions of tons of corrosive salt all over their roads every year.

Nice idea but flawed I'm afraid.

I think I enquired about the car you have forsale.

For me I was put off by the lack of good photos and the fact the car is filthy. Get it professionally valetted and get some good photos and it WILL sell, much less effort than looking to other markets surely?!

Hi Matt......your totally right of course (I just didnt have time to get it cleaned or photographed proffesionally for you -work kids and the fact that the car lives about 20 miles away from me) it will sell....I was just postulating an idea and asking if anyone had any experience
