I've decided to wire in a decent 12V socket local to the driver A piller for my trusty TomTom
(seen as the AM Satnav is so $hit!)
I've no idea how to get to the back of any of the three 12V sockets in the centre console!
Any one done this or got and idea how to remove the console?

ETA it's a 4.7

Cant help with the access question .
But isn't it well beyond time manufacturers fitted a better power suply than the absolute ridicules cigarette socket and plugs that are now the industry standard on most car and plug in accessory brands

Even cars in the 60s had decent 2 pin "parking light sockets"

one area the industry has gone backwards in.

(remember when you use to hang a double sided red and white light on your drop glass?)

Cheers Bacardii - that's the old shape though frown
Froggie - the 12V sockets are a bit crap but as you say industry standard frown
Hence why I want to hard wire the 12V to 5V convertor.

I wired my Satnav adaptor in to my GT.

I pre-wired a couple of connections from inside the cigarette adaptor unit and then insulated the terminals which I then secured up under the dash behind the drivers side.

This was convenient as the satnav was to be position on the drivers side and I had a source for a 12V switched supply which was always present when the ignition was on.

I connected into the this supply and fed the mini-usb socket that fits the satnav up the back of the dash.

I had to remove a few screws from the area where the door shuts against the side of the dash to enable me to feed the cable in out of sight.

The cable can move up and down so when not in use stows neatly away.

That was my plan - just need to find an easily accessible 12V feed.

The new design of the centre console incorporating the Ipod connection is fairly straightforward to remove, but an absolute pig to put back in....

Lift up the rubber cover underneath the cupholders and remove the two screws (Torx T25). lever up the leather and cardboard trim piece (curved) immediately behind the hinge and remove the two screws (T25). Ease the whole assembly towards the rear of the car and lift carefully at the front. The cable for the Ipod is very tight! disconnect and then disconnect the 3 wire plug for the aux in. lift out the armrest, disconnecting the rear power connecter as you go. You can then take a 12V feed from the rear power connector.

Re-assembly is simply reversing the removal procedure. The fly in the ointment though is trying to hold the metal bracket for the front screw fixing still, whilst putting the screws in from above.

Good luck!!

Best Regards,
