How's this for torment?

An immaculate storm black V12V is waiting for me to come and collect it in Swindon (it's the one Dick Lovett had for sale).

The roads to the house however are unpassable without 4wd and even then very dicey. No chance whatsoever of getting a V12 Vantage to the house, nor a delivery truck, as things stand.

I doubt I'll be seeing the car until the new year.

Which is a special new kind of pain in the arse.

Just like the children waiting to open their presents then. OH all the build up stress and suspence

Im sure its painfull and dont supose the seller is prepared to loan you a 4x4 or rat car to have fun in the snow (as many of us are doing) seming as the dealer cannot deliver the goods.
This time last year i was traveling 4hrs a day in a 1976 lada @ minus 28 degrees ,no problems
The meek shall inherit the earth

But at least Your new toy is warm and dry in its shiny armour and out of the reach of Jack Frost.

If the roads were clear every one would be complaining about the salt.

Sit back, chill and enjoy the fact that you can get chauffeured around and have a festive drink or 3 without some mean police man trying to terrorise you for having a good time.

I can emagine sitting in the armchair in front of a box enjoying the company of loved ones is no substitute for enjoying the wiew wizzing by whilst enjoying the company of your fraverate music cocooned in the luxurious cockpit of a v12 Aston Martin
Dont you just love materialistic things.

I'm not sure if the above has been posted yet. But it might make you feel better/worse. For what it's worth 2011 is going to be a good year! wink

Well I got my DB9 on Friday 17th and put it in the garage after a trip from Amersham. Then the snow came and it is still there although I can sit in it and I know what every single button does wink

that video definitely makes it worse!

as it happens I'm not at all keen on driving it on salty roads, so hopefully we can have some mild weather and plenty of rain to wash the salt away and then I can look forward to taking it home for a wash and wax, before tucking it up with the trickle charger until March. Which gives me just about enough time to plan a few trips for it in 2011.

The first one is already a dilemma. I've a Lotus Elise begging for me to put some more miles on it and a long awaited trip to Italy to follow the mille miglia. While the Lotus would be absolute joy in the alps and offers the ability to take the roof off, I just might not be able to resist taking the Vantage...

Thwarted by blizzards, ice and now freezing fog, a small window of opportunity may have arrived. Collection is due to take place either today or tomorrow.

I'm starting to realize why fast cars don't sell in the winter, price apart it's a rubbish time of year to buy a car!

Agreed Murph. Always makes me sad to see talk of such a wonderful and useable car being tucked away "until Spring' or whatever - and a bit of salt/whatever ain't going to bother a modern car's structure much either. Fabulous car to use all year round and there's something great about munching through a wet stormy night in a car like this - or am I weird? Each to his own of course and if you're lucky enough to have one of these beasts you've earned the right to do what you bl88dy well like with it!

PS. Two edits for spelling and I bet it's STILL lousy.

To cheer you up, once you get your hands on your new toy you'll be amazed at how practical it is in this stty weather.

In the last snow, at the beginning of December, I did 1200 miles in my then brand new V12 to western France and back. I've just now got back from Wales having done 600 miles in the last Week. Other than it having a spot of bother going up the hill to my folks place (it was like a skating rink.....wouldn't have wanted to walk up it!!!!!) I've had no trouble at all. And before anyone asks....no, it was on the standard wheels and tyres!

You'll have a blast and it's far to cold for plod to stand around with a speed gun too!! wink

Yeah…..sod that for a game of soldiers. I’ve given mine a run round a modified Oopnurthring a couple of ties since Boxing Day. Apart from a few instances of flooring-it and not being to put all the power down, the tyres have been good and the ride marvellous!

Get the car out, take it for a spin (the safe sort) and look forward to washing your P&J once back home.

Car is now tucked up in the garage downstairs.

It's been a good day.

But what an amazing car! By thunder these little cars are special to drive. Even on a day like today.

I will never tire of that engine. It is utterly magnificent and a reminder of what the world will miss when big V12s are finally outlawed.

I didn't go over 5k revs (still under 1000 miles on the clock) but it feels alarmingly quick already. Simply immense creamy smooth waves of torque available.

'Sport mode' just wasn't necessary or desirable today. In fact I prefer the extra finesse offered by 'normal' mode.

I have to say I adore everything about the DBS but this, for me, is even better to drive.

I found the ride to be superb for such a serious performance car and the V12V's one setting is better for me than either of the DBS's. I was expecting it to be harder riding but it's very comfortable and quiet and every inch still a proper GT car. I now realise that Aston couldn't make a jarring 'road racer' if they tried.

If I had to criticise anything I'd say perhaps the steering is a bit light and the rack a touch slow (good thing for a real GT car of course) and the steering wheel itself a bit big. The switchgear is daft and eccentric but personally I like that. It's endearingly british. Ok the sat nav is woeful. It got me home but that's about all there is to say on the matter.

But all this is mere nitpicking. It's like criticizing Michael Angelo's David for having a small pecker.

The V12 Vantage is a total and utter masterpiece.

I dare say a 458 Italia is faster round a track. But you know what, Caterhams will be overtaking them all next year from Anglesey to Spa, just like they always do. For a car to enjoy on the road I don't think anything with a V8 and a playstation gearbox could, for me, get close to what a Vantage with a 6 litre V12 and a slick shifting 6 speed manual has to offer.
