In my battle for battery longevity I went ahead and ordered a Varta G14 battery. Its an AGM battery and supposedly far better at extended periods of disuse etc compared with a standard one.
Its the same dimensions and terminal layout as the factory fitted Varta battery.

Only thing is I've just opened the battery compartment and have become immediately confused..

Has anyone here changed a battery in an AMV8? I cant seem to figure it out. I've managed to undo one clamp on one side, but thats as far as I can get.

Carpeted trim behind drivers seat has to be removed to be able to remove batt. 10 mm nuts under floor carpet holds trim in.

So I have to remove the entire rear cabin bulkhead?
Somewhat excessive for a battery change!

I had to change my battery recently. After removing the trim behind the seats, I found that the battery was held by a clamp in front of the battery (at the bottom on my car, think some have a different design). The trim on the side of the car (behind the drivers seat) had to come off as the clamp would only slide off sideways. Not sure how this was achieved, as I asked my local garage to sort it as I had run out of ideas/talent!

All in all, a right pain!

Thanks lads. I managed it in the end!

For anyone else looking to do the same thing I will write the steps not the way I did it (because I did it trial and error) but the way I reckon it should be done.

I took photos but they are not very good and would take far too long to explain.

I prepared by taking the keys out fully and using the Battery Disconnect Switch feature. Before I did that I put the seats fully forward. If you accidentally push the seat into recline whilst working then the manual unlock strap is inside the hole at neck level (whilst seated).

1. Remove the rear shelf cover.
2. Remove foam cover on and behind battery.
3. On the chrome ledge behind the drivers seat remove the silver screw beside the wall trim. Then remove 3-4 of the phillips-head black screws connecting the trim to the chrome ledge.
4. Lift the carpet behind the drivers seat from the rear, revealing 2 bolts. Remove those bolts, taking care not to damage the side/wall trim. You can now remove the trim from behind the drivers seat.
5. Remove the clamp holding the battery in place by unscrewing the bolts fore and aft of the battery. Stow the clamp.
6. Remove the 2 metal clamps at the base of the battery. There are 2 screws in each(use allen key).
7. Unscrew the terminals from the battery. Disconnect the battery drain tube beside the positive terminal.
8. Replace battery in correct orientation and reconnect drain tube to the new battery.

9. Reverse the steps (1-8)above.
