How long before replacement is required?

I know they cost thousands of pounds to replace so I am wondering what sort of life they should expect?

I asked the dealer the same question when i purchased mine. They said the discs should be good for 100,000 miles and the pads should last the same as 'normal' pads. Obviously dependent on type of usage too.

I think, reading the service book, the discs are cleaned and weighed every 3 years as part of the service schedule.

How expensive are the pads compared to standard pads?

fronts at current vat rates are £820 and the rears £550.00 plus fitting, and from what I have seen I think they will last longer than the brakes pads fitted to the DB9 and the V8 Vantage

What sort of miles have people got from V8 and DBS pads? Thats quite expensive pads right there (more expensive than even my Lambo ones) so curious what sort of mileage this could start to become a concern (I am still pondering a V12V with 9k miles on the clock you see)...

Depends very much on use.

I think I drive reasonably hard, but am not especially heavy on brakes. Got 25k or so our of the rears (would quite probably have gone further than that, possibly 30k). Fronts are allegedly close to needing replacement at 40k.

I asked the same question when I bought my V12V and were told that they should comfortably last the lifetime of the car under normal use. (i.e. no track days). The cost of replacement of the discs however is rather scary!

They are just for the pads including vat for such as the DBS and the V12 vantage(ceramic brakes, the standard pads for such as the DB9 and the V8 Vantage are £280 front £250.00 rear, you can get cheaper such as ebc but i would only recommend them for such as a track day so as not to destroy the pagids, and only available for such as the 9 and v8

I am sure they are something like £1500-2000 each... Can't be far off.

I had heard the main dealer price was around £12k for a full set, so thats c £4k per corner?? Makes sense as Porcshe charge around £8k for a replacement set of PCCB brakes, and most things AM are that little bit more than the equivalent Porsche price.

Still given they should last the lifetime of the car, it shouldnt ever be an issue. Same brakes as fitted to DBS I believe so this shouldnt be a revelation.

Presumably the cost should consistantly fall over the coming years anyway as these become more popular.

Slightly worried now though from hearing the Evo car needing new ones after 9k miles, as I am considering V12V that has 9k miles on it and could well have been an AM press car in its former life.

I wonder if an AM health check can give ne an indicator of how warn the discs are?

On a porsche forum I frequent, someone there took the Ceramics off their GT3 and put "normal" pads and discs on in order to save the ceramics until they were ready to use them on track etc..

I assume that could be an option haha.

I had ceramics on my RS4, I was told with "normal use" they will last 100K/lifetime of the car.

A word of caution, if you look up simonspiders DBS journal on evo, he played russian roulette with replacing his front pads and ended up trashing his discs, the replacement bill including a service was list at £9,800 quid....

I was told by my audi dealer they were something like 5 grand a set for the fronts only (RS4 has steel rears).

so the moral is replace pads early!
