Hi Chaps,

So the Aircon is all out of gas again - last top up it was filled with lots of dye too so the people at Broughtons could find the leak. Suffice to say after a major inspection of everything bonnet-side there was not sign of a leak, so the next soujourn involves taking the dash etc out (and I am expecting it is the evaporator that is going to be the culprit).

Has anyone had this done ..and broadly speaking what size £bill should I be prepping for?

Many thanks in advance,

Matt.

Matt if the evaporator is leaking the dye will be seen at the drain tubes that exit underneath either side of the bell housing, one place that is always difficult to locate leaks is the pipes running down the os of the engine bay, they have a heat resistant silver cover over these and so the dye is trapped between the pipe and outer cover so not always visible with the uv lamp and a common replacement for us, they leak at the point where the rubber pipe is bonded to the metal pipe, I would check this first and will mean opening up this cover to have a look and can be refitted using heated resistant cable ties,(not the standard black ones)

Hmm thank you for that - I shall have to get a UV lamp and have a look myself. Broughtons had it in the workshop for over an hour and found absolutely no trace of any dye anywhere bonnet-side despite putting a double amount in it six weeks before.. I would assume they will have had a look at the drain pipes you mention (!?) ..it is a mystery.
