I haven't even driven a DB9 yet, so this is a very preliminary enquiry. What should I expect:

More low down torque?
More supple ride quality?
Less sharp handling?
More/less boot space?
How does the noise compare with a De-F22'd V8?
Any difference in build-quality (I'd be moving from a 06 to an 06)?

Grateful for any feedback so I've a reasonable idea of what to expect when I test drive one.

Thanks, Nick

Alright - I get the hint. What about a DB9 Volante to bridge the gap between youth and senior citizenship?

More low down torque? Well it does have a stonking V12 against the V8 4.3 so yes
More supple ride quality? Not tried one
Less sharp handling? By reputation yes, but not driven one
More/less boot space? The DB9 has a boot, V8 as you know is a hatchback, so depending on load can be more practical
How does the noise compare with a De-F22'd V8? Got more of a V12 howl at the top end both sound great, but nothing beat the 4.3 V8 sound IMO
Any difference in build-quality (I'd be moving from a 06 to an 06)? Hopefully not by now, any problems should have been sorted out, don't buy a garage queen with small mileage on as problems may not have become apparent.

Grateful for any feedback so I've a reasonable idea of what to expect when I test drive one.

I'll answer sensibly this time around. See above

I thought that, I tried one, did not like it. I will not post why I did not like it as the DB9 peeps will get offended, it just isn't for me. Saving my pennies for a DBS. I really think the only move from a V8V is a V12V or DBS..

Try a Volante, in manual. It was the combination that worked for me, coming from a 911. Otherwise, I would have passed on buying an Aston. I tried regular DB9s and a V8V - didn't quite do it for me. Each to their own. Obviously, a DBS would be nice, if you can stretch that far.

In the firm where I work, my Volante has acheived iconic status. Really pleased I bought it.

And, in my humble opinion, a Volante way outclasses a coupe in the looks/character stakes.

Very good time to buy a volante right now - middle of winter.

My Mum had a DB9V that she swapped for a 911 Cab.

She was 72 and needed something a little smaller.

wow, interesting fellas.i initially came out of my db7 because the transition from tvr tuscan was too extreme.chopped the db7 for my v8v and have had 3 1/2 joy filled years.i'd just assumed with the stiffened suspension and a gear stick coupled with all the advancements from db7 to db9 it would not be too much of a cruiser.

I think the concern on the DB9 (pre-2010) was not so much that it was a 'cruiser' but that for such a stiffly sprung car, it was not as sharp as it should be. But then I think those comparisons were relative to the excellent Vanquish S and the like. Have heard the 2010 DB9 is excellent in the handling department now.
