I've tried a search and not found anything, possibly somebody could help me out; is it possible to retrofit cruise control into a V8 Vantage Roadster? I guess I'll be on the phone to some dealers tomorrow but maybe somebody might know whether it can or can't be done, or a ballpark estimate to the cost.

Thanks

I believe it is do'able, but think you are looking at couple grand plus to get it done... More hassle than it's worth I would suggest???

Yep I'm sorting of expecting something in the ball park of £500-£1000, but want to have an exact price before deciding whether it's worth it or not.

Hence will be giving Rick a call in the morning I guess!

Cheers

Likewise; Paris monthly and sometimes down to the French South coast - I bought the car I wanted and would like to add it if I can but will manage without.

Depends on the MY. Early cars you have to change the steering wheel to one with the cruise control switches. Later years already have the wiring in the wheel and you just need to add the switches. In both cases the computer has to be reconfigured.

It's an Oct 09 car; so I'd guess MY2010?

Sounds like it should be quite easy then.

Rick's answer was that he could sell me the control for £52.65 and then flash it to enable it which would take maybe an hour so I'm assuming a total cost of about £200. The problem with this is that it will then lose the flash whenever if it ever needs to be redone by a dealer.

I rang an Aston dealer (HWM in Walton-on-Thames) on Rick's advice who said I need a whole new steering wheel for £442.61+VAT and it would require 3 hours to fit and flash at £130ph, so working out at something near £1000.

Option a) £200 and some inconvenience, against option b) £1000 to do it 'properly'

ETA: Thinking back, Rick said that it could need a new wheel; the problem is I won't know if I actually do need a new one or the dealership just wants to make money selling me one; although I think I price out at about £500 for cruise control. I'm awaiting a call back from Grange AM Welwyn (my 'local' dealership) to see what they think it needs.

I'm new to this forum and picked up my first Aston last week, an 07 car. I wanted cruise and the main dealer I was buying from fitted it for me before taking delivery. As such I don't know the cost but can confirm a new wheel was put onto the car, which had the required cruise control buttons.

With hindsight I wish I had asked before taking delivery, but this was the first used car I have ever bought so it didn't even cross my mind!

I will drop the dealer an e-mail and see what he suggests; they might be able to do it at some sort of reduced rate for me.

Can easily see a new wheel being needed. Or as a minimum a switch pack being added to your current one (not sure how they fit).

Do you have bluetooth in the car (bunch of switches on the wheel between the left and bottom spokes)? If not, you might want to consider asking about that while you're at it. Unless it's only me that has OCD with steering wheel symmetry biggrin

PS Is the "control" Rick referred to the switches that go on the wheel?

If so, I would imagine he might know how they fit...?

Also, can a main dealer flash the ECUs such that it doesn't get overwritten? One would presume this would be possible by anyone??

At the moment I have a wheel with bluetooth on the left, and no cruise on the right. Rick told me that the cruise control switches could be added to the other side and it would work, but the 2 Aston dealerships have both told me that I need a new wheel.

I think what I need is to get Rick to install the part and then Aston to do the configuration; as complicated as that is I might end up saving a lot.

More calls required I think!

Grange Welwyn have quoted me £740 all inclusive, and that would leave me with a bluetooth enabled steering wheel that I could presumably sell somehow. Tempted.

Blimey - I think that's pretty good value actually....

That does sound pretty decent value. But I'd give Rick a call to get the details on his solution. I would bet he's doing the same as the dealers. You just need to figure out why the reflash wouldn't "stick".

the reflash will be ok as long as the engine management is not flashed again . if it has to reflashed in future for any reason just ask the dealer to enable cruise control .this takes no longer and should not cost any more
