Looking to buy an AMV8 soon and wondered which companies locally would be recommended to look after it? I know a lot of people drive to Derby but I'd rather find somewhere local!

.....also interested for the same reasons (although it may be a DB9 & not a V8V).

I seem to remember Peter Nash at Warsash did have an Aston trained techie (pretty sure that's what a certificate on the wall by the service desk said anyway), but that was a few years back - may be worth a call?

Not had the need to use them much, last time I had to go, they did some work on my Tuscan 'III' S ok. They are primarily car sales though, even though said cars range from Jags, Porsches, the occasional Fezza on up to Bentleys.

Other than that, I presume it's over to Chichester (Harwoods?)

Thanks, I thought Emblem in Poole who look after my F355 might be interested but to their credit they said I would be better off finding a specialist who had the necessary dignostic equipment. I'll try the company you suggest.

Where does everyone else take theirs?

For the Gaydon Astons it a choice of main dealer or Rick - DMS. Seems to be a bit of variation in the standard of main dealers. Main dealers can be fantastic, can be expensive but some are willing to negotiate on price. Or book a day off work, go to Derby, stay in nice hotel and still save over the cost of a dealer service.

The Derby option would be tempting if I could fit our mountain bikes in the car... I used to ride with a chap who fitted his bike to the roof of his 911 - not sure I want to treat my Aston like that though!

Sorry forgot to say where they are, Near Sailisbury 40 mins from Southampton.

Take a look at the website though they seem interested in all things aston old or new. I remember seeing a couple of DB7 Vantage owners recommending them in the A.M.O.C mag.

By the way if you do not already know the A.M.O.C. mag is very interesting for car sales, parts and services.

I have also had brilliant service from Grange Motors the main Aston dealer in Exeter but probably a bit far from Southampton.

From my experience I do know the worst place to take your car to have it serviced...............
Aston Works Service Newport Pagnell.

Trust me do not be tempted by their over inflated reputation, my father had a terrible time with them in the 70's they fitted 5 new clutches to his car over the course of 4 months when the car was only 10 months old. They were continually rude to him and told him that he did not know how to drive and must be riding the clutch which he was not, eventually they found a manufacturing fault / crack in the flywheel and they never apologised. He never bought another Aston again owned everything but.

Any way he warned me but I did not listen but he was dead right. Unless you are a royal someone or a celebrity you will not enjoy the attitude if you dare to complain. They messed my car up so many times it was unreal they had it six or seven times over three months I lost count. Eventually Grange Motors sorted all the problems in a two day visit and lent me a Jaguar whilst they did it. Grange were brilliant they knew more about my car than Newport Pagnell.

IMHO having been up to Rick at DMS its a no-brainer, driving up from the west country in an Aston is pure pleasure and when you get there you are so well looked after it makes for a great day out. Unlike a main dealer where you drop the car off and find something to do for the rest of the day at Ricks you can watch whats going on and virtually get a running commentary. The coffee and egg and bacon sandwiches are pretty good too!

Having had a couple of blips in the past I now find Harwoods in Chichester to be pretty good. More real world now than in the past and prepared to negotiate within reason.

Thanks for all the replies smile Good to know that there are some local specialists as well as Rick in Derby. It may just about be feasible to use Rick as I have clients in that direction - especially if he has a courtesy car...
