update sat nav software

Do a search on here and you'll get the Volvo part number. Then do a Google search and you should find some links...IYSWIM.
If you're not good with Google/computers, the alternative is to call Volvo and buy the part numbers you find on here. Think they're a couple of hundred quid. You may find cheaper sources on eBay.
To be honest, what you get afterwards is not worth the cost of the disks, so if you're not handy with Google/computers, I wouldn't bother. Just spend the money on a top of the range TomTom.

From another post (don't know whose):
If you can confirm your car has a pre-hard drive Satnav as fitted to 09MY cars the Volvo part number is 31310191 1022 Europe. If you decide to buy the 2010 discs, FRF Volvo Swansea sell them for £150.80 + £5.50 PP, (RRP £186). Call Simon in parts on 01792 790066.
I have these on order.

They do improve matters - full postcode search being key amongst them, but there's also a very rudimentary lane assist, and the updated maps probably help most of all as it gives more options for the thing to calculate a route.
Still not worth 160 quid though when you consider the portable units can buy for this amount absolutely knock the Aston system into next week (year!).
The internet, however, is a wondrous thing.

Received Volvo part number is 31310191 1022 Europe this morning, inserted the UK disk into my Roadster and it works perfectly. The three disks for Europe cost £160, okay, and that's a disgrace, but I now have full postcodes, good GPS reception at all times, and the cabin not spoiled by the mount for any sort of satnav.

Just how "bad" is the V8V satnav?
I'm use to an Audi RNS-E (circa 2006) which is fairly basic but fine for me.
I'm considering a V8V but like my in-car tech to work well (satnav, bluetooth and hi-fi) even if it's not the latest all-singing/all dancing system.
I don't think it's that bad at all, probably about as good as our BMW but not as good as what's in the Merc and updating mine to full postcode capability will be a great improvement. I certainly don't think it's a dealbreaker if you are looking at getting into a V8V. I'm use to an Audi RNS-E (circa 2006) which is fairly basic but fine for me.

If the quality of the sat nav is a key factor in the decision, I suspect you're missing the point of the car and I'd save your cash and buy something else.
The SatNav in the car works. It's just not a patch on even a first generation TomTom. But getting lost has never been as much fun

It's more a case of whether it's a usuable system, or if I'd have to research fitting an integrated third party system - I hate fiddling about with TomToms and the like, and all their untidy cables and ugly brackets! yes its very useable when you get to grips with it ...far better than say a 2004-2006 BMW navigation as fitted to my Range Rover...just download the latest CD and your sorted for full post code search etc (one of my gripes with it originally in 2006)
everything is relative, and technology moves at such a pace, by the time a car hits the market, the sat nav in it has been superseded with something "better"
Volvo have just updated their system now, so it did have a good lifespan really, compared to some German cars where the electronics/Nav changes mid-model generation ...I wonder who Aston will use next....

Aston Martin SatNav now upgraded to full postcodes by Volvo disks is fine, drcarrera. As someone else on the forum said, the absence of mount and cables clutter is a real plus in a beautiful Aston interior, and it is a fundamentally good system for voice guidance and junction navigation, it is integrated with the sound system, and it always seems to be locked on to a good number of satellites. So, have no fear!

If you update the sat nav DVD with a volvo one, does this affect the sat nav at all in the Aston ? I seem to remember something like you loose the AM logo on start-up ? is it replaced with a volvo one ? can you revert back to the old DVD if you need to ? thanks
nope - I think the AM splash screen is in the firmware, whereas the CD is just the map and some software features it seems; I still have the AM splash screen and I use the latest Volvo disc in my 2006 VantageIM NUTS2 said:
If you have the know how you can get the 2010 discs from HERE
I used to think I was fairly PC literate. However, clicking on that link and after registering just takes me to somewhere I can download a random High Def video file, rather than the 2.9gb file. What am I doing wrong?? (hangs head in shame...)Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
