My 1st Aston... Advice please
Discussion
Good Morning
Being from Aberdeen and not having an AM dealer here (
After 3 997 911's I'm looking to buy a V8 Vantage, all the porsches have been superbly reliable... can i expect to find the same with Aston Martin, looking to spend around 50k, so prob a 2007 car with lowish mileage, annual mileage will be between 4-5k as i have a 2nd car.
Apart from Sat-Nav and having a FAMSH... wot is a good specced car?
Servicing intervals and rough cost?
On a 2007 car is there any probs i should look out for?
Any help would be great
Many Thanks

I have made the jump.... I had a 997 Gen 1 then a Gen II... I fancied a change and what better place to move to!
To be honest I was expecting a considerable drop in performance from the 997, but I have to say I have been very pleasantly surprised - The Porsche does have the edge, and the V8 does need to be revved more to get the performance but you will not be disappointed. The noise from the Vantage is just awesome - keeps putting a smile on my face!
Reliability seems good - I expected it to be poorer than Porsche, but having only owned it for 3 weeks I can't really comment yet.
The Aston however is a much nicer place to sit... the leather, design and feel is sublime. I would say the driving position takes a bit of getting used to, it's very low.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the move across - loved the Porsched but was getting bored.... This thing doesn't fail to put a smile on my face.... Do it!

Also made the jump from C4S to Vantage V8, seems like the natural progression given the price of these Astons now! I thought it would be a few more years before I could get into one, luckily not the case. Not sure whether you are thinking of buying from a main dealer but the service I have received is spot on, they cannot do enough to help. Then again my local OPC were good.
I have had quite a few reliability issues and niggles with the V8. Spent a fair few weeks back at the dealer, in fact it's being picked up again today for another round of minor fixes.
My thoughts are that the C4S was bullet proof. Changed battery and rear tyres in a year. £300 service at OPC, did about 12k in the year I owned it, went to Le Mans, used it for work - never let me down once. A very practical 'junior' supercar IMO. Problem for me was that by the end, dare I say it, it felt a bit run of the mill!
The Aston is special, no doubting it, 911 has nothing on it. Cockpit is stunning and a really nice place to be. Friends/Family all love being out in the Aston, it has that magic effect. Never wait to pull out at a junction, everyone seems pleased to see an Aston and lets you by, be it 18 years old lads or 65 years women, the positivity it receives is lovely. The sound is also phenominal from a standard car, immediately pull fuse 22, ignore any negative comments you have heard about pulling it.
Performance wise I prefer the Aston, it's more exciting due to the RWD set-up. The 4WD of the C4S was too planted by the end once I (thought I!!) had mastered it. I get the impression from the Vantage in a few months of ownership that it will take a lot longer to feel like I am at one with the car, but thats the joy of learning it.
My advice - You live once, get one!

Thanks guys, very positive.... Astons seem to have what i'm looking for which is soul, porsche has engineering, bulletproof engineering. The V8 Vantage is just beautiful from every angle... i'm sold only decision now is Coupe or Roadster. Then there's the colour. I'm finding myself on PHD's twice a day looking to see whats available !
fuse 22 will be getting removed.... i want the V8 in all its glory

I would say a good spec in addition to satnav is~:
premium stereo
HIDs
not much else I can think of it "needs"
they are not like German cars with 1" thick option catalogues...its mostly trim choices
Done 54K miles here, just a few niggles in first year, used most days
Servicing every 10K/12 months
£700-1200 at a dealer
£250-550 at an indy
certainly the first daily useable Aston that costs no more to run than a premium German car
