dud warranty and auto protect - worth taking further?
Discussion
I bought a V8 vantage with 9k on the clock just under a year ago from an indy.. part of the deal was a fresh aston service and a years warranty. The warranty turned out to be with auto protect and not with aston. I was assured it was as good and would be fine.
Well just under a year on and in with aston for a service and the front engine cover is leaking with a circa £2k bill just for that job, if the warranty was with aston they would have covered it. auto protect only cover mechanical breakdown and don't cover it. after looking at the paperwork the warranty has a £60ph limit (aston is £120ph) and a max claim limit of £2k.
I'm left feeling I've been sold a dud from a very well respected established indy who have washed their hands with it. should anything major have gone.. engine, gearbox etc i'd have been up the creek without a paddle picking up the tab.
i'm putting a new aston warranty on the car moving forward but should i just swallow the £2k bill for the front cover and move on or chase auto protect or chase the indy as the warranty doesn't match the car at all.
i know i should have looked at the warranty in much more detail before now but being excited about the new car and trusting the indy i went with it. although i did raise my concerns about it not being an aston warranty very clearly at the time.

the oil leak from the front covers is a well known problem with both the V8 and the V12 engines.....my DB9 had the problem and it was fixd under warranty......my understanding is from Rick at DMS that this problem can be sorted most of the time by just tightening the cover.....have you spoken to him ?
i've spoken at length with the indy who have also spoken to the main dealer they supposedly have a good rep with... the long and the short of it is that they aren't willing to come to the table at all. my 1st year of aston ownership was meant to be a fairly inexpensive one knowing that i had the car covered for a year. the indy agree it is unfortunate and they agree the policy isn't suitable but have said word for word they are not willing to put their hand in their pocket. they are blaming aston for not issuing me with the new aston warranty before raising the fault but it's already gone on file so can't do that and i think that's what they call fraud anyway!
auto protect is a dead end, they have done exactly what they offer and nothing more nothing less.. fair enough.
can't decide whether to get on my soapbox or just shake it off and go and do some more work to pay for it?
service £1000
2 year aston warranty £2200
front cover fix £2000
the extra £2k takes the fun out of that first bill!

Hi Joe there are varying degrees of leaks from the front timing cover area, in the majority of cases just tightening the bolts is sufficient every V8 we service has this done as part of the service now and we have a very high success rate with very few have the second repair and a very small proportion having the third, The second one is a from the corners where the rocker cover gaskets meet the front cam cover and heads, there is a mod for this, and as blackice states it is about 2 hours aside and can be done to just one side if that is all that is leaking, It seems your dealer has gone for the third option full front cover replacement of the seals and is a major job and is correct if the prv has not been replaced or yours does not have the later valve then an ideal time to replace it,

You didn't read it BEFORE you bought the car??!phunkyphantom said:

Not the news you wanted, but I'm afraid it's the truth.

get it up to Ricks....at least you know it's in good hands and the 2k bill could be a lot less....then go for the extended warrenty...although i think the after market ones...ie after the 3 yr period are all a wate of time and money.....and are heavily stacked in favour of the insurance co.
thanks for the comments... I know I should have detailed the warranty, stupid yes, my fault yes! caught up in the excitement and reassurance from the indy.
rick, cheers for the clarity, from what you've said it's the full job being done. the car is a keeper for the next couple of years so worth having sorted. the prv I was told needs changing from metal to plastic? is this right?
I'm right down south in Bournemouth so a bit far from you... i think down here main dealer is the only real choice?

You answer your own question, and fwiw I agree with you. michael gould said:
you have already been an arse by not checking the warranty when you purchased the car.......you have had good advise from this forum now act upon it .....get the car to Derby Motor Services
Not sure the insults are called for.....Poor guy already admitted he made a mistake...mine would be a 400 mile 7 hours round trip... or my local dealer who have so far given me a great service will pick it up and drop it back to me as part of the deal.
a good specialist is great if the logistics work for you.
without opening a can of worms is the Aston warranty pretty good? they're offering a European wide recovery/collect back to my regular local dealer etc.
