Does anyone know where this bit should be attached?! One of the vertical slats in my grill was knocked clean out and I had to recover it from the gap behind the grill. Whilst rummaging I found this loose and have no idea where it came from! Car is a V8V.

That is part of the thermostat assembly, and is an internal part, so do not worry must have been dropped when the thermostat was replaced it will just want disposing of,

Sorry Rick, misunderstanding. The thermostat was replaced at Amersham and my tongue in cheek comments were aimed at Alan (the Service Manager there) as I knew he'd be reading as we had already discussed another matter. In any event they didn't leave the part in my car anyway as I have seen the pic of the thermostat that came out when they replaced it and it was clearly intact. So now I am wondering how the part happened to be dropped down behind my grill as I cannot believe the car has gone through two thermostats!

I've got no reason to doubt the guys at Amersham. They have done a great job when I have been in. Alan took the picture of the thermostat that came off my car as he was going to post it on here to help others who may have been having trouble getting their thermostat replaced. The reason being that another dealership was not interested in replacing it even when I told them that was the issue.

It was a few weeks ago now it was done and I cannot honestly remember if I saw the actual part that came off my car or just the picture of it. Can I be 100% sure that the picture was of my old thermostat? No of course I can't. It could have been a picture of any ruined stat. Could the part have fallen off after the pic was taken? I assume so. But like I said, I have no reason to doubt them.
