I have an 08MY V8V Roadster. It comes with a standard key, and a key fob which operates the central locking (am not talking about the Tracker fob).

Is there any other key available that combines the key and the remote? Seems a bit odd in this day and age to have 2 seperate units?

Thanks

No. That's the way to operate the car. Unless you buy an 09my....

There's money to be made here for someone surely?

I bought my N400 without inspecting the key, naturally assuming it was the same as I'd seen in brochures / online, or at least similar to every other car [bar TVR] I've owned in last 10 years.

I thought the dealer was winding me up when he presented me with 2 sets of keys / alarm fobs, weighing what seemed like half a kilo! Until he pointed out that it was a Volvo part. irked

Incredible that cars of this quality / value have such a ridiculous set up.

If anyone gets round to designing an integrated unit, I'd be happy to pay well for it.

The question of separate keys n fobs must cover a number of models and i would have thought there was an opportunity here for someone who knows how these things work to have offered
an alternative. Does anyone know if the Aston system is like that of later Volvo or jaguar
set-ups?

well its a Ford key and a Volvo fob ...im guessing there are some Ford group electronics on the other end

as above - it needs someone who knows what they are doing to make a posh single key fob

Ferrari key is a fiat, Bentley key is an Audi, the list goes on. The ECU idea is nice but it cost money to implement, money that's usually tied up in other areas of design and manufacture.

It's ot that it's a Ford key , or a Volvo transmitter - it's that there are 2 seperate units. Every car I have owned in the last 10-15 years has had a single key with built in transmitter.

Slight thread diversion.

My alarm/central locking keyfob on my '06 is looking a bit battered. Presumably from previous excited owners dropping the key fob when laying eyes on the awesomeness of the V8V. biggrin

If this is a standard Volvo part is it easy to get replacements? Really I just want to rehouse it without the hassle of getting it reprogrammed. Anyone done this?

I have considered the possible options long and hard and have come up with the following option. Please bear in mind that this is only a prototype - I envisage are far more solid end product, perhaps using 'super glue'

If I get enough interest I think they will be priced around the £1200 mark.

Ahhh, bless, just like TVRs! Alarm/remote fob and seperate ignition key. However, you do need a seperate boot remote if you have that feature fitted.

The TVR alarm guru, Carl Baker, did convert the key on my first Tiv to a single unit, plus the boot unlock, certainly a lot more user friendly.

He may be able to put something similar (and appropriate) together for Astons???

His site is here: - http://www.tvruk.tv/www.tvruk.tv/index.html

There only a cheap and nasty poxy ford key i am mot sure about yours but mine is a ford transmitter fob so should emagine its just down to the voodoos that program the fobs sureley a newer style combined key and transmitter can be programed to transmit on the same frequencey.

You could go the full hog and make the ignition key redundant easily enugh TVR style

after all its possible to transmit from your fob to a mobile phone, then send to another mobile phone and use the phone to lock or unlock the car door. so why even bother with a key or fob?

I supose having a key is a style staitment(or lack of as Aston owners case is) bit like wearing a watch, some thing to throw on the table or play hide and seek with.

If there is enugh intrest i may be able to do some snooping.
Any one got a redundant fob?

Ok guys n gals i now have 2 styles of fob.
would I assume right that it is better for the key blade to retract (ball point pen style)or fold like a VW? so it wont rip any more holes in your jeans pockets.

what would the materials of choice be? leather clad, alloy, carbon fibre, stone, resin or splastic?

Looking at shape, something run of the mill,(nothing stands out as wow factor that i can think of) 007pistol ,winged, objets d`art ?

What fob would every one want to fish out of the bowl at a car/partner swap?
