Having up until now only experienced the roadster with normal boot, I am having problems with the tailgate on the coupe.(Is that the right terminology?).

I find that I bring it halfway down then push the remaining but it wont latch. It seems to need considerable force, almost a slam which I find disconcerting.

My initial thoughts are that it is probably due to the new rubber needing to bed in, or is there a knack I am missing?

Thank you

Di

No they usually take a bit more of a push than a roadster. The parcel shelf doesn't help as it's designed to rest against the window so adds to the need for a bit of extra force. The aperture seal is bigger though as you said and this does need a bit of bedding down too.
There are some adjustable stops on the rear corners if absolutely neccessary but if you over-adjust these the tailgate will hit the top of the bumper so probably better to get a dealer or a specialist to do that if it doesn't get a bit easier over the next month or so

Needs a bit of a push, usually pull it closed to just before it locks, then push directly downwards on top of the boot.

My V12V boot was initially somewhat more difficult to close than the V8V coupe but I took it back and the dealer adjusted it and its much better now. I think it might be something to do with the different tail lip on the boot - perhaps its lightweight meaning it needs more force to gather the momentum needed to engage the lock.

A handy tip is to leave one of the doors slighltly open, then the boot closes lots easier as the airtight cabin works against the boot closing. This also explains why a roadster boot is easier to close as it will never be as airtight as a coupe.

yes My V12 takes a bit more oomph than the V8 did. Mustn't grumble though... smile

I found on my vantage the leather pulldown for the boot was attached upside down. When closing, this was interfering with the catch and wasnt closing unless you really slammed it. Having reversed it, problem solved. Hopefully you didnt have the same numpty attach yours and if was the case expect you would have noticed it catching. Just in case though....

Thanks guys, guess its just a case of getting the right procedure.

Whilst I'm here, if Knights of Aston is still around, or anyone else knowledgeable, I do have a pronounced rubber trim on my passenger door seal where it is slightly proud and visible on closure. Tiny complaint but I like the car to be just so. Is there an easy cure for this?

Hey, after 5 days ownership, if these are my only quibbles then that cant be bad.

Still luvvin it, but because my main daily journey has been in heavy traffic I am finding her a very thirsty lady, but thats to be expected. Cant wait for the weekend to stretch her legs.

Hi Di - I have owned my V8V Roadster for 5 days also! I too have the same problem... Took it to the dealer and he said that the rubber seal has come unstuck and needs to be replaced. Should be a warranty item... Good luck!

Seems like a common problem, all with a slightly different answer. I also went from a roadster to V12V and had the same issue. I found either that there was a continuous rattle from the rear or that the boot/tail didn't close properly. Dealer decided that it was the shelf and made some adjustments to it. No such problem now. The car is thirsty in town ( I remember one early journey in to the centre of Birmingham and I returned about 7 MPG) but averaging 17.6 after just under 9000 miles (almost its first anniversary- I feel a party coming on). Just got back from Leicester on a mix of motorway and cross country (cotswolds) driving - it is a fantastic beast.
