As my beloved V8V approaches its first birthday I wonder if I am too "finicky" over noises in the cabin, or should the cars only noise come from the exhaust note (or possibly the audio of course!).

So, as this is my one and only experience of owning an Aston, or any other Top level car (coming from Merc and BMW before it) can I expect the odd rattle especially on our pothole ridden roads?

A little history - the car was perfect for he first 400 miles or so, then developed a really annoying rattle from inside the passenger door. It would rattle even on slightly bumpy surfaces, but was soon resolved by the dealer. Since then i have had other rattles - the other door, the same door (again) and worst from the area of the sat nav.

They were all fixed after undertaking the obligatory drive to prove they were real BUT now and again I get the rattle back from the Sat Nav if I go over man hole covers or other irregularities in the road surface. Also the drivers door speaker has started vibrating now when the audio is on (dealer is replacing).

So, I'm interested in others experience - do you have occasional rattles and noises, especially on bumpy roads, or are your cars the epitome of silence, allowing you to concentrate on the exhaust note?

Unacceptable! I appreciate this is a handmade vehicle but the cabin rattles from the centre console is driving me mad!

No other vehicles have been this bad, even previous TVR’s I have owned before.

Really bad form Aston!

The only thing that rattles in my 2008 V8V is the glass ashtray! Needless to say it's not in the car anymore. Apart from that, silence.

My V8V used to rattle quite a bit, usually related to the console. Offending components were the top dash air vents which used to squeak (dealer resolved) and far more annoyingly, the sat nav unit. It went back to the dealer on several occasions who only seemed to be able to fix short term and within a few uses came back. I only had it for 15 months. The DBS - so far so good....

Do you happen to know exactly what the rattle was in the passenger door ? I think I have the same problem but have been dialling it out and trying not to get excited about it.

Rick fixed my door rattles by putting tape on the upper fixing brackets, seems to be a common problem

Hi sorry I'm not sure what it was - the dealer fixed it all they said was something needed tightening inside. Is yours under warranty still?

I don't think you're being too picky. I HATE rattles and squeaks in a car, and I'm one who accepts the notion that a low-volume, hand-built car may not be as trouble-free as a mass-produced-by-robots car. One of the things I really love about my '95 Porsche 993 is that, after 15 years and 67K miles, it is totally free of rattles and squeaks -- to me, that is a part of what makes it feel like a high quality item.

My '09 V8V has been great so far, no rattles or squeaks (though it's only done about 2600 miles), and I really hope it stays that way.

the rattles and squeaks that can be found on the later cars in many cases are very easy to rectify, as panels etc settle down after build that is when noises start to be heard, the common areas are the door panels where they fit at the top and usually a little bit of padding fixes this, just forward of the door this panel here can squeak and it just normally requires readjustment of the rubber seal, the panels between the seats also can be easily removed and brackets adjusted or padding added, all these can be done with a bit of care and basic diy knowledge and tools, you can get a knock/rattle from the top of the steering column this is usually the airbag and should be left to a professional to repair, although it is a quick repair mistakes with airbags can be very dangerous, rattles from around the satnav or dash can be the most difficult to resolve in some cases a simple readjustment to the panels in others more intensive surgery may be required and noises here may be from the engine bay so correctly locating the noise is paramount, rattles from the tailgate area can be simply something in the boot or such as the tyre deflation device and canister not secured properly, I have probably come across if not all most of the squeaks and rattles and in many cases are really minor niggles with many rectified within 10 to 20 minutes, I am happy to provide details on specific rattles and squeaks and the best way of resolving them,

Rick is right , they are genrally easy to solve , you do have to remember that you are driving a car with the best and most rigid chassis design in its class ,and add to that leather on leather panels, Do you remember the noise your old leather coat use to make walking along the road.

If you look at a lot of other cars , where they have leather it will more than likely be next to plastic , ie leather seats , plastic door cards with leather inserts., leather seats plastic transmission tunnel.
Leather dash top half , plastic facia's in the middle and then leather bottom half and so on.

Leather on leather is a bh this is where most of the squeaks will come from.

And temperature plays a big part in it too. Cold day no rattles, warm day creaks like an old bed spring.

I just did a one hour journey in mine to have the bolts replaced under recall and was beginning to wonder if I had been imagining things because I was buzzing along in a squeak/rattle free cabin. I guess it may be down to the temperature (13 degrees so not particularly cold) or possibly because I didn't have to use the awful pot-holed lane that leads into the village.
On a very positive note, I hit some lovely clear roads and have arrived home with that huge grin again, what a sense of occasion !

biggrin nice solution
Roadsters do suffer more with the roof bouncing around behind your head and nothing to hold the top of the door glass.
Need to get a few sorted on mine soon.
