A little advice please if you will - can anybody confirm the required oil level on the V8V MY2010? May seem an odd question give that the handbook clearly describes the process of checking the oil, and filling it to the top mark on the dipstick.
The reason I'm asking is that when I questioned my dealer about it they said it has to be half way between the top and lower marks, which in fact is how they delivered the car. They justified this to allow for expansion of the oil as it heats up. Of course, this would also save them a litre of oil on every car they service, or is that me being cynical?
Anybody know definitively please?

I understand that new cars are delivered with the fluids filled at the factory therefore if your level was midway
On the dipstick from new it was not the dealer who filled the engine.

I dont think the difference between hot and cold oil is more than about 5mm up the stick, certainly not the 1L worth, so filling it 1/2 way does indeed save a litre of oil for skin flint dealers wink

/think about, if oil really did expand that much when hot, it would have some other adverse effects on the internal workings of the engine im sure !

I agree, My car was supplied new with the oil half way between the two marks, which I enquired about at the time and was told what i put above. My thoughts are that the designers would take into account any expansion of fluids and mark "Full" points accordingly. The handbook clealry states fill to the top mark when the engine is cold. Its coming up for its first year service and I'm going to ask them to fill it to the full mark.

I think some dealers put a liter of top up oil in the boot when the car is serviced.

I always thought they tested the engines without oil in !! of course the manufacturer puts the bloody fluids in and it should be checked by the dealer as part of the PDI

as Michael said , of course the factory put the fuilds in , and yes the dealers check them on PDI, the level should be at the top of the line after running the engine from cold at 2,000rpm for 20secs then turn off and check after 30secs.

This is the way you should check on a dry sump system , it actually tells you this on top of the catch tank.
