I decided not to renew the warranty on my 05 DB9 figuring that the £1,200+ cost was worth the risk as I have not had any real issues with the car and it passed the last major service with flying colours. However, I assume if I called my AM dealer today and said I wanted to renew they would happily take my money. My question is would they require a full check on the car before a new warranty was issued?
Thanks in advance.

Yes they would. It's a requirement of the policy.

I think they cover more and have a higher cost limit. Swings and roundabouts really.

No not at all , All we ask is for you to bring it in , we will do the check while you pop up the town for lunch or have a test drive in a new car , and then take the warranty out from us.

Please note if your car is over 5 years old, you will not get the premium warranty. The limit for claims will be 10k. If you look at it like an insurance, you are paying £1500 to cover 10k. It is very expensive

Compare it to other policies on the market though and it's good value. There maybe cheaper policies but they're more difficult to deal with, harder to get put through and don't cover as much.

Sadly I think all other policies on the market are a rip off too. Being the best of a bad bunch is hardly saying much.

So many avenues for them to duck and dive down when it comes to a claim.

One day supercar manufacturers will follow Kia's lead and simply give 10 year warranties from the off.

It would be very interesting to get some stats on how many parts are replaced that cost more than any warranty excess each year on average, and how many of those would actually be covered. You can bet your bottom dollar the warranty firms have the data smile

Kia don't have £1000 bespoke lamp units or £15,000 engines. All alloy bonded chassis, composite front wings etc. Kia's are made up from left over coke bottles I think so cost pennies to fix anyway. You get what you pay for generally. It's a sad day when we start comparing Aston warranty to Kia warranty.

I hope that was tongue in cheek!!! - because it is ridiculous.

The cost of replacement parts/labour percentage wise for a KIA will be similar (if not more)
The KIA range is priced approx 6K to 20K, so of course they wont have £15K engines to replace, but the cost of parts (perhaps not labour which could well be more)will be roughly praportional to the cost of the car.

It is not unreasonable to expect that manufacturers will follow (all be it slowly) KIAs lead.

Not long ago we only got a year warranty on all makes and at that time nobody would have beleived 3 years could be the norm.

That's why an Aston warranty is roughly proportional to it's cost.

To me, the cost and terms of a warranty are a direct indication of a company's faith in its product. As mentioned above, the maker of cheapies would soon go out of business if its product needed excessive warranty claims, no matter how cheap the spares.

If you believe that your product will never fail, offering an infinite length/mileage warranty for free would not be a problem.

If you believe your product will always fail, you'd be pushed to offer a very short term warranty for a high cost with poor cover.

Most manufacturers are between the two extremes. Kia evidently have a lot of faith in their product.

The relative parts costs are irrelevant without also considering the likely volumes to replace.

Warranties are priced according to the amount of loss the insurer anticipates. And like casinos, it's rare the house ever loses.

Someone will, of course, cite volume testing etc. Again, it's largely irrelevant against the volumes/price tag backdrop.

Christ knows - never brought myself to buy one.

And anyway, there's always worse out there.

Std warranty on Ferraris is 4yrs.

just checked, it's 2 years on a Porsche. So Small car builder knocking out £100,000+ cars at a rate of 4000 a year out does large manufacturer (with VW money) making at least 10 times as many cars. Aston's not looking too bad you know.
