Every review I've read so far in the motoring press has said the car is superb.

Can't wait until I see one in the metal. Hopefully that'll be at the NEC Motorshow at the very latest.

In the meantime, I've had to settle for a 1/43 scale model, but even that's gorgeous!!

The Touchtronic 2 gearbox is an absolute gem. Without doubt the transmission of choice. Steering is good, very direct. Ride is a bit harsh, but settles down after you get used to it. VERY quick.

You will love it, trust me.

I spent some time out in the manual DB9 a while ago and been out in the auto today. I have to say it's a great automatic box, in sports mode it gives a lovely blip of the throttle on the down changes and when using the paddles aggressively it's every bit as good as the manual.

I think the official line is that the new car is such a quantum leap ahead of the DB7, that it justified the name DB9.

I do hope the next years V8 Vantage has a name change though. How about DBS V8?

Other suggestions on a postcard. (or post them here!)

I believe Aston had an issue with the name DB8, I can't exactly remember why, it may have been because the 'B' and the '8' are so similar or because it sounded too much like it should be V8 powered.

And Aston Martin V8 Vantage doesn't sound like it'll have a V8 motor...

The V8 Vantage WILL have a V8 motor as befits its 'junior' roll in the range. Fabulous looking motor. I'm gagging to see a DB9 on the road - it looks simply wonderful in the magazine articles I've read so far, and the interior seems to be as much an event as the exterior. Thinking very seriously of heading down to the dealer in Brentwood for a look today...

Yeah the 'Baby V8' (build 305) IS getting a V8 lump which is Jaguar/LandRover based.

trackdemon I hate to have to tell you this but I suffered about 500miles in a DB9 yesterday. The interior is something special indeed. Are you anywhere in Staffordshire?

The line up in a afew years will be:

vanquish
DB9
v8 vantgae

There is no DB8 because it is thought that people froma certain country to the left of Ireland (on the map) might confuse a DB8 with the V8 vantage

Hmmm.... I wonder what you mean? Anyway I've recently moved to Essex so nowhere near Staddordshire unfortunately. Would be worth meeting halfway to have a look though
