Hi-I am looking to trading up from a 997 to something more special and less every-day.

Looking to spend 50-60K and have narrowed it down to the Ferrari 550/575 and the Vanquish.

Despite most authorities saying that the Ferrari is marginally the "better" car, nothing looks or sounds quite like the Aston (in my humble opinion)

So my question is what are they like to live with, how reliable is the gearbox, does it really need upgrading? etc etc?

If I budget £1500-£2000 is that going to cover most maintenance?

Any views welcome.

Thanks

Love them. The gearbox is generally reliable if it has had the sensor upgrade. They need to be kept in a dry environment when not being driven as there are a couple of steel components underneath that can start to corrode. If maintained well (service every 6 months or 7,500 miles) they seem to go forever. Proper mans car though. No electronic driver aids apart from a token gesture at traction control that the 'S' can easily overcome.
