What year is your car and does it have the standard dlc 16pin oblong connections behind what would normally be a glove box,

Hi Rick, Have just checked the car. It has a round connector type that to be honest I have never seen before. Mind you I think this is among the oldest of cars I've owned in recent years.

Would much appreciate your help if you can tell me the reset procedure please?

Sorry your car will be running a zytec engine management system only way I know is with the old Aston diagnostic equipment wds, the later system will not work with it and not everyone with wds has the lead for this system, Contacting one of the heritage specialists may be able to help,

First thing is to check why it is on in the first place. Sometimes if the voltage is low when the car starts it is enough to light the light, but if it is running badly/misfiring then you'll break the cat and that's expensive.

The ECU resets itself if it has 20-30 power ups with no problems; so to reset the light turn the ignition fully on then fully off 30 times.

Hi v8lm.

No misfires. Engine runs fine. Think may have had low voltage after multiple starts fixing an air con problem.

Have tried 30-40 cycles but light still on. Is there anything you need to do at the same time? ie. Does the door need to be shut, can I do it quickly or do I have to wait for all the other lights to go out, does the transmission have to be in a certain position?

Any help much appreciated.

Could be a real fault then.

(it's been a while, but reset was as described. Start the car. Stop the car. Turn ignition fully on (not start). Turn off fully. Turn on. Turn off. Repeat 30 times, once a second - tick on, tock off. Turn fully on and start. Light should be out. If it isn't it's doing its job and there's a fault.)

Ah! I never started then stopped the engine first. Will give it another go. Thank you for the info. I'll let you know how I get on.

Thank you! Thank You! Thank You!

Yes that worked a treat. No more light!!

Obviously starting the car then stopping it first made the difference. Did this, then cycled the ignition 40 times (to be sure) then started the car. No light. Excellent!

Thanks again.
