Hello folks,

I am going to Spain and Portugal in the near future. My number plates do not have that blue bit with "GB" on. Do I need to get "GB" stickers? If so, do the magnetic versions work on a DB9?

Also, I was going to put some sticky black stuff on the headlamps, but I think that I read that someone damaged their (V8V) headlamp covers. Has anyone done this on a DB9, and were there any problems afterwards?

TIA

Don, http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/...

£2.99 from Halfords, stick on the side of your number plate. You do need these.
Re: headlght converters - depends if you are going to do a lot of night driving. I have just returned from a week in Angouleme and didn't bother - didn't cause any problems.

I carry a GB magnetic sticker and headlamp converters with me whenever I go on the Continent just in case however I do not fit them beforehand. My No plate does not have GB on it. I have had no problems at all (mind you I do try and not drive at night).

Yes to GB. Get yourself a GB number plate. Much neater.

Don't bother with beam convertors.

We bought all the stuff for two weeks in France, near Limoges.

I changed the plates beacuse the GB stickers looked ste but we didn't need the headlamp converters, the warning triangle or the hi-viz.

Mind you, we didn't get stopped as the wife was sat next to me - far more effective than a speed camera warning thingy!

Hi

I have just returned from this trip having spent most of the summer down in Portugal, firstly the magnetic stickers never worked on out volante and when I enquired with works service about headlamp adjustment he said the beam on the DB9 is so narrow there was no need to bother, the roads down to Portugal are great and mostly congestion free, to save the paintwork invest in a GB numberplate!

I live in France about half of the year so I've experience of the 'rules'. You're unlikely to need them, but DO carry the hi-viz, warning triangle and, I think, spare bulbs. Les flics are known to do random checks and it's an instant fine for not carrying the necessary bits 'n' pieces.

And beware of the speeding laws - sorry I'm a bit vague but I think if you're caught speeding at more than 30kph over the limit, your licence can be confiscated and, if there's not another driver, so can the car yikes

ETA: assuming you're driving through France!

Thanks, I didn't know that such a sticker existed. I shall pay them a visit today.

To everyone else who answered - I don't think that there will be any night driving. I have a Halfords travel pack which includes beam deflectors, although I don't believe that these work with zenon lights.

I also need a spare bulb kit, but I don't believe that these exist for the DB9.

At least I can show them the lamps (whether they would fit or not - doubtful - is another matter smile )

Beam converters do not work with xenons, so don't bother.

One other bit of advice. At STOP signs make sure you come to a complete halt, don't trickle over at 2-3mph. The french are particularly hot on this at the moment and will issue a fine on the spot.

My old magnetic sticker has been on the fridge door for the last couple of years as it doesn't stick anywhere on the vantage.

[halfords number plate stickers too large to look neat].
