Hi all,

Are AM in the habit of doing one-off paint jobs or is it something new buyers can request? My Vantage is painted in Amethyst Violet and I cant find a photo or reference to another car in that colour? It's a Mercedes paint colour and I just wondered if it is a one-off or if there's any more out there?

cheers,

My GT is covered in Canna di fucile metallico a Ferrari paint, and apparently the only GT to have this colour.

There are other Aston's daubed in the same colour but only a few.

Aston will paint a new car any colour you request. They have a special paint booth at Gaydon if I remember correctly, just off the normal paint line. Quite a clever paint line apparently, with self cleaning robots that can switch colours between each body ...

All paint line robots do that.

lol they must be trying to make out they have special robots then but I can tell you that they are exactly the same
as most paint line in Europe, it's the process that differs.

Do you meant Amethyst red ? This was an official colour introduced with MY09, at least for the Vantage.

MartinV12,

No it's definitely not red, the car is almost black in certain lights. The paperwork says its Mercedes Amethyst Violet.

Sorry, for me, this is not a robot.

But why not explaining your insight knowledge to us poor Aston Owners ?

Why does it take 50 hours to finish paint on on AM whereas it take 50 hours to build a whole Porsche Carrera including the paining ?

Amethyst red is very dark almost black too and shines red in the right light. But if it says Mercedes Amethyst Violet, that's what it is smile Aston Martin calls this "Other Manufacturer Colour" and it's a ~3500€ option if I recall correctly.

We class them as robots as they are mechanical arms that are controlled by computers in human no go areas(whilst on).
Aston's take a little longer because they have a double primer the first coat of primer is hand finished/sanded thus taking the additional time though still not 50 hours to paint.
