Hey all. I only recently come across this forum. I am from Hong Kong myself - and am planning to buy a 2nd-hand Vantage here in Hong Kong. It is actually going to be a third-hand Vantage when it comes to me, as the previous owner is already a 2nd-hand owner. I am no expert on the vantages or Astons, so would you all give me some advice on whether this car is worth buying or anything I should note when buying this car? I am going to see the car owner tomorrow so would appreciate any quick response! Thanks in advance! The owner is asking for $1M HKD (should be negotiable), so that's about 82,439.47 GBP (but there's first registration tax in Hong Kong.. I think it is about 100%?)

Also, many people say yellow is a weird colour and doesn't really suit Vantage, what do you all think? I personally think it makes the Vantage even more special.. especially with the Mansory body kit etc..

Details of this Vantage is:

Yellow,
Manufactured in 2005,
First registered in 2006 in Hong Kong,
4,282cc V8 380bhp
6 speed manual,
12,000km mileage
Mansory Aero Kit & exhaust

I also enclose some pictures:

I think the V8V looks great in yellow....... but I'm biased! Not too sure about the Mansory bits though.

By UK standards it's very expensive.

Yeah, I think yellow looks great too - I guess the mansory bits appeal to different people's taste then.

I know it's very expensive too, I think it should be around 42000 GBP if the first registration tax is reduced. Is that price still a bit high then?

Please forgive me if I am being really stupid, but could you not import a Uk dealer prepared car for around £50,000 plus freight. Or do HK laws prevent this?

You could do that - in fact a lot of people in HK do that too, but you end up having to pay the first registration tax which is about 100% of the car's price (I think - not too sure on that) .. so might as well buy one from HK?

I think what stanwan means is that here in the Uk we tend to prefer our classic cars to err, well, remain classic. Mansory tend to appeal to the more money than taste brigade such as premiership footballers. Mansory modifications dont do much for Uk values, in fact in most cases detract.

Saying that, if its what you want, go for it. You asked for opinion, and mine is that I reckon that car would struggle to reach £40,000 here. I must say that in HK I would imagine you would be getting a very rare piece of kit for your money.

And for a few $'s more you could get a genuine Aston wink

What a yellow WOW
Personally i love it, You just have to see the colours of cars ive previously OWNED-Sunglasses at the ready!

But i think over in the UK a yellow aston would be hard to sell even red and baby blue cos these colours are not really represented by what ASTON MARTIN is about.

i.e aston martin presents to me being the perfect english gentlemen, someone who does not want to be "look at me, in my YELLOW aston" more black, navy, silver, british racing green.

Extreme colours like this yellow need to be on lamborghini's

Having lived in different parts of Asia I can say this car is perfect.

To have what we like in the UK and Ireland whereby it is understated class isnt really appreciated nor really understood. Mods encouraged. Labels/marques first. Colours loud.

Besides I kinda like the look of this car. I wouldnt be comfortable driving it here, but I would there. Given the HK tax it probably isnt a bad deal but haggle like hell! (you are probably best comparing it to other cars in this category to see if it is priced correctly in such a small market like HK).

Oh and let me know how you get on. I am considering bringing my Aston to Shanghai. It's a longshot mind you! The tax is horrendous.

Yes, indeed the tax is absolutely horrendous here.

In fact I went to see the car yesterday and had a test drive. Probably one of the best driving experiences ever in my life so far. It is so different from seeing the car in pictures than in real life, and having the chance to sit in it and drive it is just fantastic!

The problem is now the price to be honest. He is standing very strong at $1m HKD (which is about 82,412 GBP with 100% tax, so I'm guessing it's about 41000 GBP without? The calculation is probably wrong though). I tried to haggle and said I am really interested in buying the car but it would be great if you could lower the price by a notch.. say 100k HKD or something, but he immediately said no and shook his head and said $1M is his final price. Well, I guess he wouldn't care too much as I figured out he has 7 ferraris, 5 lambos, 4 bentleys, 3 rolls and a couple of other cars in his garage too, he even showed me some of his other cars yesterday - and added "if I couldn't sell this Vantage at HK$1M, I guess I will just keep it myself". I really don't know what else to say after he said that.

What do you all think?

I have decided to wait for a bit before offering another price - so fingers crossed that he will lower the price by then!

By the way, I noticed something weird about the side mirrors (or maybe it's normal?) on this yellow 2005 vantage. Is it normal that you have to fold it manually with your hands and it doesn't automatically fold in or move out (it is modded to be a carbon fibre mirror though)? But presumably that would make no difference because it should be electronically controlled, right?

It's an option that's obviously not fitted.
