Putting this out in this forum and the Ferrari, Lambo etc forum.

Are their any owners of an Exotic car out there who would be willing to have a chat about possibly taking me and my groomsmen too and from the Wedding venue in May of next year?

I have been looking around various forums and websites to hire a car for the day/weekend and the rates are plain ridiculous. I know they are expensive cars but £4figure sums are out of the question!!

Opening up to any owners on here who feel pity or want to make a bit of cash on the side one Friday and would oblige?

If I was up there, I would.

Though it's worth noting that the rental figures are usually high for a reason.

You could ask lolmann1 biggrin

Indeed - anybody hiring their car our that way to you (even if they are driving themselves) could find their insurance company walking away if anything happens whilst the are chauffuering you around.

There is a reason rental companies exist, and there is good reason why the rental of such cars is expensive. There isnt really any way of doing this on the cheap and safely other than if you know somebody who will do it as a friend and charge you nothing.

This is the purpose of submitting the post to find someone who owns their own exotic and wouldnt mind doing something on the side. Not so much charge nothing either. Something for their time and fuel etc would obviously be no problemo!

Just searched for and read the thread on Lolmann1. Thats very harsh!

I hope he gets somewhere with his insurance/legal battle. Sounds like a right mess, more so than his car!!

Couldn't agree more Rob. I followed the thread but as someone in the profession it sounded like so much b*****cks to me that I couldn't be bothered to join in.

Good luck Jacky , I hope you find some suitable transport, sorry I live at the other end of the country otherwise I would have gladly helped out.

Thanks LordBret.

Your exactly the kinda guy I was hoping to appeal to.

I am finding that my location is a bit of a hinderance as there appear to be a fair few hire companies down south, and a spalttering near Edinburgh but nothing in between!!

I've done this in the past for a groom (and I let him drive), and it was a pleasure to do. But:

a) The cars that you are talking about don't take more than one passenger, so it'll be multiple trips and that'll split the party up, and
b) Any reward would invalidate most insurance policies.

exactly!

The cost of petrol alone in travelling to /from your venue and then shuttling your groom (+others) to/from the wedding is likely to be at least equal to the "reward"...

And then any reward would instantly negate most insurance policies as it becomes a commercial vehicle and would need insurance akin to that of a taxi (but on a lesser scale).

Imagine a scenareo where some kind person here volunteers to help with their car and you reward them say a nominal sum for their effort. That kind person chooses not to tell their insurance company for fear of not wanting to pay the massive premium they will add for such an arrangement. Then through no fault of the kind owner or your groom, a horrible accident happens on the way to the wedding and your groom is critically injured with a life changing injury! You will no doubt then wish to persue the insurance companies for compensation - however once they find out about the commerical travel arrangement you had for the wedding the owners insurance will be negated and both insurance companies will refuse to pay out anything. The kind owner could loose his car, and you could loose your groom or his future livelihood!

Its a horrible situation and one that just doesnt come into most peoples mind, but remote as it is, you and your kind AM owner voluneteer need to think long and hard before undertaking any such schemes. It simply isnt worth the potential risk, no matter how slim it might appear.

Just move on, either stump up the cash for a real car rental and do the job properly or forget about the whole mad little idea and find something more productive to spend your limited cash upon to make the wedding more enjoyable. As I said before there is a good reason exotic car rental is expensive.

Sorry if I seem to be trying to spoil your day - Im not, indeed far from it Im trying to help you by stopping you doing something that could go horribly wrong despite the best intentions. I wish you a great and enjoyable wedding, but please think and plan very carefully before entering into a scheme such as this could spell in disaster for both parties and ruin the whole day.
